DSG gearbox question

Featured Replies

Daft question but does the DSG auto box have oil in it?  Reason I ask is I’ve seen reference to “dry” DSG box.  Hence no idea if it needs an oil change or not, and if it does how often is on the service schedule, or advised by fellow users which may well be more frequent.

Yes they all have oil in, wet and dry refers to the clutches, some are wet and some are dry. I believe the service interval is 40k

Cheers, that makes sense.  With the mileage I do I’ll prob hit oil change on time rather than distance.

The DQ200 DSG / 7 speed twin dry clutch has 2 oils in. In the box and in the MCU.

No service schedule or interval for changing on them.  Not 40,000 or any other amount of miles.

That does not mean they can not have the Oil Changed as some do and as some Dealerships wrongly tell you is due.

The wet clutch DSG's are showing as the Schedule Change at 40,000 miles with Skoda, VW & SEAT,

Audi say 38,000 mile.

The 6 speed has a specified interval of 40k Miles.

The 7 speed has no set interval.

The 7 speed actually has 2 oils in it. One for the gears and a separate one for the mechatronics.

Hmmmm, is that “sealed for life”, or in other words,  “sealed until it packs up outside of warranty”?  I’ll prob sort something out at 4 years or 40k, if I hit that first.

When in a phone people might not see what car the OP shows as having so those reading and answering are left answering in general.

If asking about a particular DSG maybe an idea to say what your engine and gearbox / DSG your car has.

Nothing to do with Wet Clutch DSG's,  when talking about no Oil Changes needed,

just service on schedule or sooner, 6 or 7 speed wet clutch DSG's.

Then nothing is sealed for life. If you want to change it.

& it is the DQ200 DSG that VW did a world wide recall on excluding Europe and changed the oil from Synthetic to Mineral.

There are drain plugs and fill plugs.

Good point re phone reading, as I should know as sometime use my phone or read posts.

Couldn’t edit my first post but the car is a 2020 2.0TDi 4x4 DSG, 7 speed variety.   How can I find out which DQ### it is?

That's the newer 7 speed DSG that does have wet clutches and a change interval.

It’s 40k for its service whether it takes you 2 years or 6 years, not a time related item like the cambelt

Cheers all.  I’ve only done shade over 4k miles in 6 months, and the next 6 months are looking like even less miles, so 40k is going to be a while away!
