Rear view mirror – Manual control

Featured Replies

As per title really; after a search here and even reading the manual I’ve not come across away of manually adjusting the tint of the mirror.  The reason for asking is that I find the combination of tinted glass and tinted mirror too dark so would like to “untint” the mirror. All thoughts appreciated.

The mirror has a light sensitive film over the glass so your best course of action is buy another mirror.

Unless of course you can scrape the film off.

Spend money!?

I take your point though.  Assuming that it's a Gentex type electrochromic system I guess I could just cut one of the wires, but that's a bit permanent. The most likely thing seems to be that I'll just live with it.

The joy of modern tech, sometimes old school manual stuff is nice, but such is progress

Agreed!  I can live without comfort indicators, shut my own boot, adjust my own drivers mirror, store the key in a handy hole in the steering column, etc etc.  As you say, progress...

Hi - you do realise that you can turn off the auto-dim on the rear-view mirror, or do you mean that it's too dark even with it switched off?

Err, no, I didn't realise that.

How!?

Does your mirror have a small green indicator light in the lower part of the frame? - if so, there is a switch next to it - press that and the auto-dim function is off when the green indicator is off.

Not that I can see. Back to plan A of ignoring it!

@JBD1974, that's the later frameless mirror. The earlier mirrors had a button underneath like @Warrior193 mentioned above.

Plan A sounds like your option here I'm afraid!

I don't wont to create a new thread on the same subject, so i thought i'd revive this one.

So, i've been bothered by the autodimming feature of the rear view morror since the day i got my Kodiaq.

Despite all my searches i have not been able to find a mirror with maual dimming (which would have been ideal). Nor a way to deactivate the auto dimming on my rear view mirror.

So, any help will be sooo much appreciated. If you have any suggestions either on nuying a manual dimming mirror or how to deactivate auto dimming, just "shoot".

Driving at night is very difficult with this mirror and sometimes plainly dangerous.
