changing front spring

do you all use wire brush at all?

Such dribbling guff in this thread, he wants to change TWO springs, not two hundred.

ANY old Chinese rubbish will get two springs done if greased first.

I use warm soapy water and a 1" paintbrush and an old toothbrush to clean the wheelarch and any exposed threads the day before. You don't want to be trying to fit too much into one day, especially if you don't know what you are doing. Getting rid of as much dirt before getting down to serious work helps enormously.

And so will a pair of ratchet straps in extremis.

Or 2 fat mates and some fencing wire in even more extremis!

I have always used ratchet straps on my 7's with coil over shocks using the drill press to compress the assembly for removal or the springs before fitting.

These are what I use. I've got other kinds as well, but I find these sit well and don't twist and slide about. Like wino, I've done a few sets with them. You can grease them or spray them with whatevers lying around the shed before use if you want, it makes things a bit easier.

"Tools"

socket set/spark plug socket/21mm ring spanner to remove top mount

spring compressors

and obviously a jack.

Fairly straight forward process and plenty of video's tutorials online if needed and you do need to take any wheel hubs off, Simply use 2nd jack to raise and lower the drive shaft to squeeze the shock and spring past & pick up some top mounts, no point in going to that effort stripping it down and not replacing the top mounts for a few quid each.
