Fan speed problem - where is the resistor?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've just bought a Mk2 Fabia 1.2 HTP. I have a feeling that it is about as base a model you could buy back in 2007 and the simplicity is part of the appeal for me.

Having bought it (for the wife) I then started to discover the things that are wrong with it that I didn't spot on the test drive. None of them are serious but the most annoying one is the heater fan that will only work on setting 4. A bit of googling and I learn that replacing the thermal resistor is the solution although a clean and re-lubricate of the heater fan is advisable at the same time. The resistor in question is apparently underneath the glove box, but this being such a base model there isn't really a glove box to speak of. Pictures are attached to this post.

Put simply, how do I remove the glove box and access the resistor in question? I've had a good poke around and nothing seems to come out of the dashboard, leaving me wondering how to get in other than by removing the whole dashboard.

All advice welcomed - thanks!

Dunno how that trim comes off, looks almost like it might be held in just with the sort of trim clips that hold lots of the plastic trim bits on, if there are no screws visible anywhere underneath? Prise it off fairly forcefully if so.

Resistor is between fan and pollen filter at the top of the air duct 'tween the two. LHD set-up shown so mirror image in RHD cars:

The pen holder trim pops out with a plastic trim lever. You can then get to the three bolts that hold in the passenger airbag. Once that is removed the resistor can be replaced.
