DAB missing from Kodiaq RS MY21

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

Just picked up a brand new race blue RS on New Years Eve.

Was a bit surprised to find no DAB radio, that was in the MY20 model (ok, so more annoyed that surprised)... Can anybody confirm if that was an 'option' that the sales guy forgot to tell me about, or has it for some unknown reason, been removed from the car?

Second question is to do with 'personalisation' of the car. On the infotainment system, I can't seem to find any personalisation options, which I believe that were on the previous model. So if the missues or I go in to the car, it will be 'configured' for her settings etc.

Third, I've read a few posts on the 'fogging of the front lights'...Below are pics we are getting. The car has only done about 30 kays since new, this is on day 2 of pickup. Car was in garage prior to this, then I drove to my brothers place about 10 kays away to show him. He pointed out the lights.... I'm presuming not even worth mentioning to the Skoda dealer?

Lastly, did anybody get a 'medical kit' in their car? Mine has the space in the boot with the symbol, but no kit in there. Just want to make sure that's 'normal' and it hasn't just walked whilst in transit, or at the dealers.

Thanks to all in advance, and Happy New Year (hopefully better than last year!)

Okay - on the latest generation of MIB systems, there is no definition of either DAB or FM.  They are all in one band.  If you do a radio scan, you will find a mixture of FM and DAB stations all in the one place.

Your stations are listed here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_radio_in_Australia#Sydney . Make sure you also have L-Band enabled in your Radio settings - oh and do a firmware update for your MIB3 system.

Okay - personalisation needs to be switched ON - Go to Car -> Settings and switch it on there.

Medical kits - if they are required by Law, you should have been given one as standard.  The only references I can find are here: https://www.safeworkaustralia.gov.au/first-aid

but not specific to cars.  As Aus is a large inhospitable place outside the towns and cities, you might want to go and speak with your dealer about supplying a kit.

Re: lights fogging - make sure the caps on the back of the lighting modules are properly in place and they are not missing or incorrectly fitted.  A dealer check will verify this for you.

awesome, thanks varaderoguy... I'll check it out when the misses comes home...

I when to 'system settings' or something similar (can't remember exact words) and couldn't see any available updates for any of the entries (it didn't show 'up-to-date' or anything like that, just nothing in the list)... I'll see if I can work out where 'firmware update' is on mib3..

I just went to the update site, nothing for my VIN according to it..

Thanks for this one too mate. There doesn't seem to be a 'car' module anymore that I could find. From the main 'menu' options, there is just Settings, and radio/ satnav etc..

I'm trying to find a better example (and will take a quick video when the car is back home), but it's like this one I could find (home, Menu on the left)..

Look at 2:39 mins onward and you can see the two 'screens' that I see with the same options.

ops, didn't include video..

On the MIB3 systems, it is done completely differently.  Make sure you have an 'data' link with your MIB3 system, then go to the Home Screen - and hidden - top left - will be notifications - and somewhere there - should be a firmware update for your system.

Ok, thanks again. Dealer just rang me (he's a nice guy) and read out a 'Service Bulletin'.

Apparently DAB has been removed, and also the 'key customisation/personalisation' has also been removed in MY21....

Very interesting to know why Skoda would have done this (simply dumb?) and also if this can be turned back on with Carista or something similar... Might be worth me investing in one (I'll have to do some research on what to get, I'm used to vagcom/vcds for my old Audi)...

My Kodiaq my2021S-tech has DAB radio, and, as far as I know, it’s standard on all the models.

Where abouts are you Captanharlock? Might be a country specific thing... (I'm in Australia)..

I live in Italy, but it seems very strange to me, since it’s not an option on any model.

I thought it might be to do with saving some 'memory' on the unit now that Android Auto is fully wireless (and works nicely).

I'll do some more investigation when my wife comes back home!

I just checked again, there is no settings for Personalisation on my car unfortunately.

No DAB option at all as well. All stations are just FM (we actually use DAB+ here in Oz).

No firmware updates either, seems I have the latest.. This is what is on the system..

Okay - That looks like a Columbus system to me and an MIB2.5 system. That's a curious combo for an MY21 car. Do you have a DVD drive in the glovebox for that system?

@pab567
is there a new firmware version available on that system or not?

Personalisation is definitely a feature; if you go to Menu->Settings, is it located here?

The radio should be DAB+ compliant; worth asking your dealer about that.

But it's the Australian market these guys are talking about.

Jeez, I can hardly find any info on the OZ manufacturer website regarding specs of the standard car. However if Skoda Australia does not include DAB+ then chances are VW won't have it either. Just had a look on VW Australia website and although it's equally as vague, they do specifically list for the T-Roc  ( you can't build a Tiguan at present in Oz )

Volkswagen vehicles equipped with our Composition Media Display feature a CD player with an SD card slot for music (compatible with MP3, WMA & AAC files), AM/FM radio and a .jpeg image viewer.

AM/FM radio? That just would never be the case here in the UK, even the most basic T-Roc would come with DAB.

So yes, it's feasible that Australian bound Kodiaqs or all VW Group models do not have DAB. Obviously best checking with your dealer to confirm this.

If it`s MIB 2,5 headunit (which it seems to be), then Personalisation can be activated with VCDS / OBD11.

Mines is the 20.5 model vrs, comes with DAB and personalised keys which match the electric seats, will have a look at the system information tomorrow after work to see what it says

This is MIB3, not MIB2.5. No CD/DVD drive, no SD card reader, no SIM...

So the question is can these features be abled via VCDS (Personalisation and DAB) @pab567

Sure they can...you have to make adaptation channels map from both old and new unit and wherever possible adjust channels in new to match old.

Not sure they can. Reading the forums here and there looks like VAG has done a great effort to close any channels that could be altered via alternative software.

When I received my RS in June 2019 VCDS was not able to read a great number of channels at all. And the same engine has beenthen  already on market for several years on VW models.

The headunit requires DAB hardware, it's not just a software product. Don't know if the hardware is already there for Australian MY21 cars - if it was, it'd be crazy for Skoda not to have enabled it already?

And if the unit is MIB3 as pab567 says then will it not be secured via diagnostic protection?  Didn't think VCDS could handle protection? OBD11 certainly cannot - their website specifically says it won't work on the latest MY21 cars. VW appear to be clamping down on 3rd parties tampering for free.

I've been told it's a MIB3... I find it a bit strange that the MY20 same car (rs) had DAB+ and personalistaion, and this one does not.

I've got an older vagcom/vcds (the version that is not locked to a particular vin) so I can plug in and do a bit of digging.... Any ideas where/what I should be looking for?

Just further, there is a 'blanking plate' in the glove box (bottom one) that looks like it was a CD/DVD player and/or SD drive...

Note that there is induction charging on this one, and that it also has android auto via bluetooth.

USB connectivity is via USB3 as well now..

Mine is exactly the same, the wireless charging is an optional on mine, but it’s like that.
