DSG Paddle after purchase

Featured Replies

Hi all, is it possible to install paddles if you don't have them? I have 1.5 TSI ACT Sportline with sport steering wheel

Probably as I know at least one retrofitted them to his Yeti. But not straightforward.

Is it worth it though? I have them and apart from checking they work virtually neve use them

Which country do you reside in? I was under the impression all DSG Sportline cars had paddles. Just had a quick look on Autotrader. I chose a selection of 70, 20, 69 and 19 plate cars and they all had paddles on the steering wheel.

I'm sure they can - at a price. But...

I never had them on my previous Golfs, and didn't see the need for them to be added. It's easy enough to flick the selector between drive and sport when you want to, and I've never found the need to go fully manual even driving on steep hills and mountain passes.

I have them on Karoq as they were fitted as standard, but have never used them. (The two left hand stalks are confusing enough :) )

It might be helpful to add this to your profile in the 'Location' and 'Model' fields as we can give better advice if we know these things :)

Ciao. OK that explains it.  Anything is possible, I'm guessing it would be rather easy for a Skoda dealership to install however it would involve having to buy a new steering wheel, then it's a simple process of fitting and enabling it.

Haven't a clue how much the MY21 steering wheel would be but as a guidline here is the wheel for MY20 Karoq

MY20 Karoq DSG wheel

( if it's a heated steering wheel then it's at least double the cost )

And then you have fitment costs on top of that.

I wouldn't be as dimissive as others seem to be. I sometimes use the paddle shifts to change to a lower gear ( for fuel economy ) or as I did the other day, drop down a gear going down a steep hill ( the engine was reving too high for my liking in auto mode ). Yes I could have used the gear shift but it's ultra easy to do with the paddles. Personally I don't think it's Euro50 easier but say Euro 400-500 including fitting? Absolutely not. However that's up to you. What has your Skoda dealer said?

Yep, all too often I find myself ‘flashing’ the car in front whilst trying to set the ACC......

I wouldn't bother to retrofit them because I don't think you will use them. I have those pedals and I used them once, just to see how they work. They are slow in response and, in conjuction with 2.0 TDI, which is not a sporty engine, it makes no sense. When I need agility, I put the DSG in Sport and it's enough for a faster response.

I have only used them once. Didn't bother to use the gear lever to put it into Manual. I just pulled the left paddle a couple of times to get a lower gear for an overtake on a country road, quicker than relying on the kickdown.

After the overtake I held the right paddle to put it back to normal.
