Tesla model S& X on recall of 158000cars with failing touchscreens

Featured Replies

Just OTA update and stop writing to flash memory that will wear out?

Seems like a rather stupid decision to repeatedly write to irreplaceable flash memory.

this is a well known issue (flash wearing out that is). Sounds like someone took a pilot project bodge through to production.

Or a developer spotted some free memory and started to use it without asking what it was for.

This sort of thing will be commonplace in cars going forward.

Too much tech in cars. Dangerous place to have this stuff fail when your 1800kg lump of steel is covering 105 ft per second.

I was also a bit of a dinosaur or luddite if you prefer just 3 years ago then I experienced the pleasure of using a 7 speed DSG and I missed my reversing camera from my 2017 Vrs245 so that and the excellent virtual dash convinced me to dump the basic Sportline Plus I bought in 2019 and replace with all the toys I missed. When you finally get a car with the latest technology including very bright Matrix headlights and blind spot monitors in the wing mirrors helps enormously on busy dual carriageways and motorways to reduce stress levels on my 40 minute commute. Adaptive cruise control works well when I'm tired and finishing a 12 hour night shift.

Some tech is magical when it works. The rear view mirror in the new defender is brilliant. It replaces the real view with a camera view so that the spare wheel doesn't obstruct your vision.

But too much tech is there for the sake of it, not integrated well and more hassle than its worth.

Touch screens for drivers should be banned imho.

100% Agreed. No place in cars in my opinion. :)

Fair enough. I suppose I may/definitely fit into that camp. For me, car spec hit its peak about 20yrs ago. Cruise control is the only thing I miss in my current cars. Running cars way out of warranty means I like to be able to repair them for as little money as possible. So, I am happy to have H4 halogen bulbs EuroCP will sell me for a couple of quid. Not just a luddite, also tight!

I wish Elon all the very best and I can't wait to have a go in a Tesla at somepoint. The acceleration sounds awesome. For me, it's the thought of all this essentially untested tech fitted to 2 tonne lumps of metal on our roads. I don't trust the tech or the companies involved. Safety and lives are at stake here and when you read about Tesla and the Boeing 737 Max....... Products are rushed to market and manufacturers are far from transparent as we know.

Elon Musk has just been announced as having more billions in dollars to his name than any other Billionaire on the Planet and don't forget he is even building rockets for NASA through his Space X project. He might be able to afford fixing the touchscreens and may even find time to remove the fart function which seems a bit pointless unless American customers enjoying pressing that button when passengers clamber onboard.

My inner 12 yr old would really like a fart function. Sorry, but an electronic whoopy cushion is funny.

My actual 10yr old installs the "Fart Skill" in every unlocked Alexa device he finds

Had to google what that was. I bet your 10yo loves that! Digital whoopy cushion, now that has to be a good use of technology!
