Does anyone know if there is a difference. It seems the SEL First Edit was the guinea pig at the start of the line which will not be continued (?), but is there a difference?

I think that First editions all came with Columbus, for free. At least the equivalent trim level here was like that, I foolishly pushed to get my car in production before week 47 to get the sat nav, but... I am not sure that this was a good decision considering all the faults first edition has. Not sure whether >week 47 cars have it better either.

Yes, the faults are so annoying as it is a lovely car.

I also thought that SEL First Edition had electric seats? 

I have the first edition and the difference is you get the ambient lighting, the skoda light logos, the memory and electric seat and mirrors, the mode button for sports wco and normal and other bits and bobs, i have seen since when building a normal SEL on website these are now classed as extras, the first edition was basically to show the features you can have, apart from the they would be the same software and all that.

I tried speccing my exact one (FE 1.5 TSI with metallic paint, rear camera and winter pack) to see what the difference was and the SEL costs around £1500 extra than the same car as a FE at RRP.  I imagine it's even more with the favourable finance terms Skoda were offering on the first editions too (if you go down that route).

 

I think the extras included "for free" were the electric driver's seat, ambient lighting, electric memory folding mirrors, blind spot assist and the spot lights in the mirrors. 

 

Not things I would personally spec as must have extras but certainly nice to have included as opposed to paying £1500!

Thanks for this. It seems then that you get a very good deal in terms of equipment with the First Edition. Perhaps that is to entice people to buy into a new car that often experiences teething problems. Once those are identified, Skoda spec less generously for roughly the same price. Interesting. 

When I ordered mine back in August last year I tried to get the First Edition SEL and was told that they were no longer available to order with the additional options I wanted, even though they were still showing on the website and configurator so had to drop to the SEL. Would have liked to have the ambient lights and puddle lights.
