Car suddenly won’t reverse at all, what’s the odds a gearbox oil change will fix it? If not what could be the issue 😬

Can you give us a bit more? Manual or auto? Does the gearchange not select reverse at all, if it does can you feel the gear engaging.? Can you engage reverse with the engine running and the clutch engaged? Did you hear any noises etc?

@Tomsalmon  Is this the Mk2 Fabia vRS?

What is the story?

Odds are an Oil Change will not fix it.

There are 2 oils, MCU's and in the box.

Here you did say which car.

Sorry yes it’s the fabia mk2 vrs, partner was driving it to work and started not going anywhere out hazards on then was fine then same again then got to work to reverse slightly up a hill to park and it wouldn’t budge, it had full service cambelt and water pump 4 months back but couldn’t fork out for the oil change in the gearbox at the time, I fell asleep and had been on nights and she got a garage to come fetch it, it drove out the car park but struggled massively! Heads a shed thinking about the costs of this!

Oh boy.

@TomsalmonHow old is your car?

If it is one with a CAVE engine so 2010-mid 2012 then did your DSG get the Service Campaign '34F7' done which was an oil change from Synthetic to Mineral and a software update.

There should be a sticker in the spare tyre well if done.

Or if you car is 2013-2014 there was Service Campaign '34H5' which was a software update.

There is no Oil Change Recommendation or schedule for changing the oil in a DQ200, but some do have it done.

PS

The car does not have a Cam Belt, it is a timing chain.

There are 2 belts that really should be changed when the water pump (Including the supercharger magnetic clutch) is replaced.

Take it to a VAG indie garage for repair, don't let the cowboys you used last time near it again.

Checked my vin number and it says no recall due can’t check for the sticker as car not near me, garage thinks it’s electrical fault and apperently the gearbox control unit can malfunction or break so possibly is that? Which can be sent away to be tested and rebuilt with life time warranty

It’s the clutch 😤 £1500 for both and reprogramming so it’s gone unfortunately selling it as a whole or in parts
