spray the rubbing strips or remove them?

Featured Replies

Thanks for the comments :)

Will update when they've been sorted. Might be buying a set that's already been refurbed, then selling the current ones on.

However I do it, they'll be getting sorted ASAP

Steve

Finally got round to colour coding my door handles.

I think I'm going to keep the rubbing strips as they are as I think the matt black look of them goes well with the splitter and details around the mirrors and fog lights.

I expect this will be against everyone elses tastes and thoughts but I dont think the fabia looks good without the rubbing strips (IMO of course!). I may get them coulour coded too though.

Incase any one is wondering' date=' I bought a second set of handles to spray and now have the orignal set spare if anyone wants to do the same just PM me.

Also the eagle eyed may also be able to spot my shorter aeriel!

Sorry for poor quality - mobile phone photos![/quote']

The rubbing strip just has to go now that you have colour coded the handles :)

As a matter of interest how do you get the handles off?

I have had the door handles and rubbing strips sprayed silver by JCB skoda - top job.

Will post some photos when I next go home.

Handles come off very easily. Open the door and you will see some torx type bolts at the handle level, undo them and its fairly self explanatory IIRC.

JCB Skoda are excellent operators. I have been to the JCB VW in Medway after my local Skoda dealer siad that Xenons couldn't be adjusted, but the master tech there knew exactly what he was doing.

Out of interest how much did JCB charge to have the handles and strips sprayed?

Anyone interested in a set of standared handles to get sprayed - i have a spare set now?

The car was in for warranty work and off the road so I asked them to do it then.

They charged about £350 to

supply and fit 'fabia' door sill protectors,

remove all the door handles, front, rear and side bump strips,

spray silver

then re fit

they also coloured the parking sensors.

This is probably a bit high in price but it was a) done at a dealer and B) its a top class job.

C) relates to me having neither the time, skill, equipment etc to do the job.

Will post some pictures soon.

Pics are a bit small mate

Pics seem a good size?

Anyway, I think that looks really smart. Well done.

Pics are Ok I guess, not the biggest. Looks good though

I have a set of spare standard handles if anyones interested to get them colour coded themselves

Sorry I got fed up with tarting about pictures this morning and up loading them - best I could do before I got a major ear bashing!!

Well pleased with the results despite my glue covered fingers!!

If I had to choose on looks alone I'd say remove them - I don't think they look good painted. But personally, I have no intention of doing either.

My car has added black bits (from and rear mudflaps, Seat splitter, Milotec grille) and to try to colour code all of this lot silver, would not only cost a fortune, but look pony too. I don't have a problem with the black either, I think it contrasts well with silver, and more importantly, it stops your doors from getting dented. Smooth lines are all well and good, but they still look rubbish when your doors are covered in parking dents.

Painted all the way... it looks that 'little bit more' with them colour coded rather than black plastic.

Don't remove them... they are there for a reason!

Think its silly that a bit of trim such as this isn't available on bottom spec fabia models such as Classic and Sport it does its job and it saved my doors many a time from bumps.

On a silver car I would say remove them (purely for the look), obviously running the risk of dents. No point doing it on my car as it's black so wouldn't really show the benefits. I have also got 2 small dents on my rear passenger door which are on the top door crease, question is, how many more would I have if the strips hadn't been there?

I still have a spare set of standard door handles for anyone wanting to get them colour coded, if not they will be on ebay very soon
