spray the rubbing strips or remove them?

Featured Replies

Should I remove the black rubbing strips on my silver vRS at the same time as getting the door handles sprayed silver or at a cost of £40 for both rubbing strips should I get them sprayed silver also?

Here is a pic I pulled from the alloys archive sticky thread which appears to have a yellow vRS that has had the rubbing strips body coloured and not removed (Thanks P2M):

Please use your vote and let me know which you'd choose!

Chris.

Spray all the way

Remove them! I think it looks so much nicer with just the creases in the doors.

Leaves you worrying whenever you're in a carpark though...

Some pics in this thread of a silver "mongrel" and silver vRS without rubbing strips.

Also think about where you park - remember the rubbing strips are there to offer some protection. If you are concerned about the risk of damage on car-parks etc, the

i would say remove them, the car will look far smoother with them removed! if you do remove them, let me know how hard it was to do as im very tempted to do the same

Very easy to do, have a search iirc theirs a few threads about it.

Removal = £0.00, just a bit of time

Spraying = £40 for all 4 I guess, as above? + time in the bodyshop.

The strips are lumpy little bits of plastic in the end, and I feel cars without them look a lot smoother. :)

not having a vrs i get the bonus black bumper strips front and rear. getting all sprayed next week. balck door handles being sprayed as well

I voted spray. There's a trend to remove the side mouldings, the bonus being it's free and I agree it does look better. However,

I think they look so much nicer without them on, just Im not brave enough to do it :(

Car looks nicer without them. I think they're too low down to do much good anyway. Most dings I've seen have been higher up on cars' doors.

Paint them as you have rubbing strips to protect your door still.

Either way spray or not I'd keep them. It's there for a job afterall!

I think having them on visually breaks up the height of the side more which IMO is neccessary, the fabia is pretty tall and slab sided... I feel the crease beneath the strips are just not strong enough to have the same effect... just my 2 pence worth! :)

Chris

I think the car looks better without but id keep them on and spray them.

There too many toss pots around opening there doors on other peoples cars.

Seeing how my silver Polo looks with coded handles and strips - it's spraying all the way for me

Finally got round to colour coding my door handles.

I think I'm going to keep the rubbing strips as they are as I think the matt black look of them goes well with the splitter and details around the mirrors and fog lights.

I expect this will be against everyone elses tastes and thoughts but I dont think the fabia looks good without the rubbing strips (IMO of course!). I may get them coulour coded too though.

Incase any one is wondering, I bought a second set of handles to spray and now have the orignal set spare if anyone wants to do the same just PM me.

Also the eagle eyed may also be able to spot my shorter aeriel!

Sorry for poor quality - mobile phone photos!

I have a black Fabia and cant really see the need to remove them. If I had red, yellow or silver, then I would remove them. After all, Skoda have removed them on the 'Sport'

I like the look of that actually, so at least one other person agrees with you!

Think it's due to the location of the strips, lower down on the door.
