  • Michelin CrossClimate 3,s proving to be good on Snow & Icy Snow, cold and wet roads. The car is OK as well, getting 2.4-3.1 miles a kWh at below freezing temps and heating on.

  • Regular clearing of snow off the bonnet required as no melting of it happens when there is snow building up.

  • It depends on the car and more importantly, the tyres.  Back in the early 80's when I was pretty broke, I drove around in a Fiat Panda.  I remember it would go pretty much anywhere.  I'd park it in dr

How’s your all season holding up in the snow?

I’d thought the snow socks should go on front wheel with AWD cars?

Tesla AWD when off road is enabled, does drive all 4 wheels. So should do as well as other AWD cars.

All-season Maxxis Premitra AP3,s.  only 195 wide and doing just as well as Winter tyres, but then FWD & not a heavy car.

Similar tread to CrossClimates.

The Old car like mine has a setting over and above TC off, Dynamic stability control off. 3 Second hold of the toggle.

I think i will put a set of these on the MG5 EV (Estate) i have got after giving the tyres that are on a bit of a try to see how the efficiency / range is before the weather gets cold / wintry.

(No spare wheel / tyres) but i might get one. these are Self Seal.)

Those Pirellis come out top or very near the top in recent comparative tests. Good choice.

I'd be tempted by the new(ish) Hankook Ion FlexClimate tyres as they are EV specific but so far have not seen any tests of them (except R Symons who I'm pretty sure are sponsored). Punctures have meant matching like for like on my ID.4, so still on OEM Hankook S1Evo3s.

Aside - I have Hankook 4S2 on the Citigo and they are great.

I am getting good efficiency in cold conditions. Better than i got with a 2020 Vauxhall Corsa Electric with a similar sized battery or the Mini Electric. Bother were running All Season tyres. On a run at around freezing it will better 3 miles to a kWh.

Have you found much reduction in efficiency running cross climates compared to summer tyres ?

I had Michelin Cross Climates on my last 2 ice cars all year round - they were excellent and lasted considerably longer than normal tyres. Just wondering if EV will be a bit more sensitive to rolling resistance?

@classic I never ran the Tyres the car came on for long enough, just long ennough to know they were ditch finders. Nearly new Toyo & brand NEW Bridgestone. Binned. (The garage fitted them before i bought the car. ATS Euromaster on the site the Dealership owns.) I would not have used them on the roads i drive & the conditions i drive in. I doubt very much there is any loss of range with the CrossClimate 3,s. If anything they would be more efficient. & regardless of that all that matters is you can get about in snow and in and out of Charging bays because they never seem to get cleared of snow. Over the past winters my experience is ploughs actually make them worse in many cases pushing snow to cause a barrier. .............. The MG5 EV is very keen to spin the wheels. & the steering is very light. Good tyres are essential IMO. The Corsa & MINI were very sure footed on All Seasons in all conditions.

Wintry weather, EV real world. Not the car or drivers fault or even the weather, it can be crap chargers. The battery was not pre heated as only run for 1/4 of a mile to the one available 50 kW DC charger unless starting the journey and hoping the ones 6 miles away are available and working. So around freezing and going just above. I want safely 120 miles range later on to get a charge hub allowing for possible diversions. 52 kWh Battery 48 kWh usable. 70 pence a kWh and max speed at plugging in 12 kW and getting to a max of 20 kW. So to get to 100% that was £10.95 for 15.6 kWh. & took 55 minutes. Max charge time is 60 minutes here then a £30 penalty. So anyone wanting a good charge up is stuffed. 15.6 kW might give me x 3.1 miles per kWh in these temps. so an extra 50 miles for £11. This is real world crap infrastructure in the South West Scotland and Council Public Chargers.

For me the very best thing about a BEV is the speed and easy of de-icing / defrosting them and heating or demisting the interior. That is even without pre-conditioning or remotely starting the procedure. I did curse at the MINI Electric because clearing the screen took time, but then it turned out the AC / Demisting was faulty from the factory and a whole new system was required under warranty. It was only after 2 winters at the first proper service they discovered this. I just thought it was built to suit theLeft Hand drive cars. Glass all free of frost in 2 minutes from turning on the car.

BEV,s are just the best for freezing / icy conditions. The correct tyres and the De-icing in minutes. No De-Icer or Pre-deicer required.

Car has had a wash for the first time since i got it. No freezing temps forecast this week. It badly needed it, but the Dealers prep guys 'WAX' / Manual Wash Wax was damn good. Wind Deflectors have been great for when sitting charging, or dogs are in car. Michelin CrossClimate 3 tyres have been good over the winter so far. (not over yet) Not been in much snow, but where i was on fresh snow they gave grip but were just so so really. Had to replace a front on Friday and @ £150 thought i might put on a pair of Cheaper Snow tyres as i have used previously, but on checking they are not so cheap anymore, so 1 new Michelin fitted. Much care needed at junctions even in the warm dry as the car wheel spins very easily. Seems to be nothing happening in the way of traction control in any mode other than my foot. PS. Re Wind Deflectors, £45 a set of 4 from China. Took 3 weeks to come. Best i have ever had and i have paid more than double over the years on some right crap sets or even a pair. These double sided taped on to the Chrome Trim and have chrome trim. Great fit, not into door / glass rubbers. *** Panicked and Fixed for 12 months the available Next Drive Tariff from Eon Next.*** I had the 6.7 pence a 7 hours up till July & missed the 7.5 pence a 6 hours still available last Wednesday, but i am gambling by going for what is available now.

I watched a Youtube vid on the Skoda Peaq, it showed that the flush door handles will open if in a crash or can be pulled open, but also have a hammer feature type action and can force themselves open if frozen closed.
