Skoda Yeti, 140 hp, 4*4, Clutch+DMF overhaul

Featured Replies

Hi, I am in between integrating the new clutch kit ( 3P+ release bearing). In new pressure plate, th fingers are little bit projected out compared to the old one. Fingers: the sheet metal fingers where release bearing contacts the clutch. Old one is made by Sachs and new one is Luk. Any one experienced this ?. Pictures attached.

Hi Vimal, welcome to the forum. The fingers on the clutch diaphragm for the new assembly project more - is that what you mean? It is a very long time since I replaced one, but that should result in a heavier clutch release - but adding more positive 'bite' Possibly the old diaphragm has lost a lot of its original tension - was the old clutch slipping?

Didn't feel the slipping. There was a kind of metal vibration sound when pressing the clutch when the vehicle is in neutral. Thats why opened the housing. Flywheel surface has markes+ friction plate is almost gone+ release bearing making some noise when moving forth & back.

Just got a reply from skoda service centre. We can use LUK/ SACHS. Diaphragm shape can change. only thing is, assemble complete kit ( flywheel+ clutch plates + release bearing). Don't do any mixing between different brand parts.

Warrior 193- thanks for the reply.

Clutch feel- I will update you once after finishing the overhaul.

Hi Vimal, much of the difference in the pressure plate diaphragm fingers is probably explained if most of the old lining material had worn away. The vibration was probably a bad release bearing. Was there any sign of a break in the old clutch diaphragm?

Could it be the distance between the fingers to flywheel face are similar on both Sachs and Luk.

@Warrior193 couldn't see much of material removal on the part. Image attached. I think Urrell make sense. Still I didn't check the assembly thickness of 3 plates.

Another thought- Release bearing stroke may be enough to handle both diaphragms.

Strut bearing+ tie rod+ stabilizer link+ front brake pad replacement + front brake disc facing has to be completed. Will be completing the work today. Planning to test drive tomorrow morning.

This is the part that can break, come apart and wreck the bell-housing/gearbox.

Drove more than 450 km after clutch overhaul. Yeti is running fine. Clutch feel is good. Clutch doesn't feel heavy.

This is a good reference for clutch & flywheel replacement.

Anyone felt small pulsation on the clutch pedal, when pressing 1/4 of the clutch pedal ?. Is this normal in tdi engine ?

I have to say, I think the video above was the most informative home made one of its type I have seen. I started watching out of curiosity, for a quick browse, rather than having any current need for the information, but found I became 'hooked' by the excellent presentation and finished up watching most of it. Informative, amusing and entertaining - what more could one want ?

Thanks Vimal-Jith for posting this and also thanks to the guy who produced the video from wheelsandmotors.com.
