Aston Martin could be going into Chinese ownership?

Featured Replies

Aston Martin are as British as MINI, Bentley or Jaguar Land Rover so why is it anything to do with Boris?

Aston has been owned by many people.

But looking at what BMW has done to woo Chinese customers I would dread to see the design decisions made by a Chinese owned Aston.

TBH the DBX is bad enough

And going into F1. Might as well burn £100M.

Is that why BMW grills have gone 'cartoon' style/oversized? I hadn't considered that before. Chasing the Yuan rather than the Euro. They used to be elegant.

At least could cook lots of steaks by burning £100M

Aston Martin have announced that their EV,s will be built in the UK from 2025.   They just need to get on then with producing Hybrids and the EV,s.

The thing with an offer is it can be turned down.

Especially when the current owner is a billionair and only recently purchased the new play thing :)

Don't really see what that has to do with Chinese ownership.

They're the production for the DBX, which is a v8 powered SUV.

That vehicle has a very limited market and it's not one that's going to grow going forward.

A v8 SUV probably weighs almost as much as a BEV, has a higher Centre of Gravity, is slower to legal speeds and costs lots to run.

In the main markets for big cars like that Electric is coming, so it makes sense for the company to trim that line.

I would suggest that there is a reasonable chance that the plan would be to get rid of or retrain the powertrain team, because they won't be needed to integrate a v8 when the plant is converted to produce the electric SUV.
