Coming/leaving home lights (I do I activate them) Octavia VRS 2010 2.0 ltr (FL)

Featured Replies

How we doing fellow members,

Few quick questions that have been on my mind, firstly what would be the process in activating the coming/leaving home lights. Do I need to go to garage for them to plug in an code it that way or can you buy a plug in like an OBD2 that allows you to change this yourself?

Secondly, I have installed h7 LEDs to the dipped beam with a canbus but have had issues with the instrument cluster unit that is doin alsorts of wierd shizzle e.g the lights on the needles for the gauges  work fine except for them not lighting up. They do sometimes flicker on for a few moments then go off. I have heard something about the CCM being fried by LEDs. Question is do I need a whole new instrument cluster unit or a new CCM.

Thanks in advance ✌️

IIRC you can activate the coming home lights through the infotainment system. Probably under convenience settings. Alternatively you can use a Bluetooth OBD2 Adapter such as Carista.

I'd dump the H7 LED kit... It's not road legal and a decent set of halogens will give better light output, especially at distance where you need it. Just keep your headlights cleaned and aligned properly.

As for the instrument cluster, it's probably the LEDs inside that are failing. It's quite common on the age of MK2 it seems. There is a guide on their replacement here: https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/425611-instrument-cluster-led-replacment/

Not on a MK2 Octavia I'm afraid

The OP will need VCDS or similar to enable them. The exact coding will depend on the equipment fitted so it might be worth check the VCDS owners map and owners list for someone local who can help :)

I remember disabling the coming home lights through the infotainment system on my old FL scout, as you say it probably needs activating first through VCDS.

The Carista website mentions enabling/disabling coming home lights on the mk2 Fl Octavia IN Customisations.I’ve used it to activate auto locking for my Fabia , which wasn’t available according to the convenience Menu.

Mark.

Proper CH/LH needs a rain light sensor (RLS) plus an auto light switch then the settings can be configured via the maxidot (instrument cluster). There are no car related setting via the infotainment/radio for this generation, only via the maxidot.

If I remember correctly, the vRS doesn't get a RLS, auto light switch or maxidot as standard

I think you can get 'manual' CH (but not LH) by using this method: https://www.servicetutorials.com/en/2020/01/07/how-to-set-activate-coming-home-without-light-rain-sensor-on-vw-golf-mk6-gti-jetta-in-3-steps/
