Problems with car once it’s warmed up

Featured Replies

Hello everyone

sorry I’m new here and not to sure how to explain what is happening with a car.

My car is Skoda octavia 2007 automatic diesel it done 148k miles.
Problems started few weeks ago car was 90 degrees than it stopped engine was running but it wasn’t driving gearbox was flashing so I had to switch it off and on and problem disappeared than next day it happened again so I took it to garage and they told me it’s gearbox controller and it’s £1000 to fix it but they tried by deleting the mistakes with computer and told me to see what will happen. I drove car for about a week and everything was fine than today it appeared again this problem while the car was 90 degrees but while it’s cold there is no problems at all. But today there is another problem appeared which I’m not to sure what is it. It showed something like steering wheel. I left it to cool down everything disappeared and drove perfectly.

sorry for long post but I’m not to sure what should I do should I try to fix it or is the car is ready for scrap yard

You really need to buy a bluetooth code reader like this.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Auto-Scanner-Bluetooth-ELM-327-OBDII-OBD2-Car-Diagnostic-Scanner-For-Android-iOS/383922050363?hash=item596389953b%3Ag%3A44YAAOSw1LVgEZ73&LH_BIN=1

Then scan for codes etc.

If you buy this Bluetooth reader you may need to trim the plastic around the readers pins to be able to slot the reader into the OBD2 port. I will post a picture later on today showing this. I'll post a short guide as to how to use the software also.

Maybe the gearbox oil level is low, are there any noises you can hear when it gets warm and loses power?

What colour is the steering wheel light, red or yellow?

Maybe the new gearbox controller went bad, have you phoned the garage to ask their advice?

Thank you for your reply

there is no noises coming out from the car. It was yellow steering wheel. I just went now to check it and there wasn’t light on the dashboard showing steering wheel.

i phoned the garage but they said that means that there is something else but what exactly they don’t know.

Even if it’s the mechatronics unit of the best box this can be repaired a lot cheaper than 1k.

You need to find a DSG specialist.

Yep, you could have bought another car for £1000.

I think the code reader is the best way to start.

Would you suggest for just leaving the car and not trying to fix it just scrap it?
why would the car drive perfectly while it’s cold it’s quite fast and it changing gears perfectly without any noises. But when it’s hot there is this problems appear. The light for exhaust gases appears only when there is problem with gearbox.

As I said before you should scan for codes.

Other than that it probably going to cost you more than a new car. You could pick up the same car for £800-2000.

Who replaced the crank sensor?

Can you looks around for leaks, you would need to drive it for a few miles then place something like an old bedsheet underneath the car and see if there's are any leaks after 10mins or so.

The power steering light will come on as a result of other issues, I'm kind 9f thinking it's something to do with the crank sensor.

When was the last time the car was serviced, oil and filter changes etc?

It looks like your car is going into limp home mode caused by some fault.

It could be low oil or a sensor or wiring problem.

I suspect you have a wiring issue on a 13 year old car, no surprises!  Something common to the various systems and which shows up with heat.

Don't waste money at a garage, get a proper auto specialist electrician to find the fault.
