False indication of lane assist, not fitted, fault?

Featured Replies

While driving in snow today I had a dashboard indication/symbol for lane assist not ready. Stopped and turned engine off and back on and fault cleared. I don't have lane assist fitted, any ideas what's going on, Water ingress somewhere?

I believe that the radar/sensors that look for road markings for lane assist also cover other functions. If they become obscured or what they are seeing isn't clear to them, then they will flag up a 'not ready' type warning on the dash. So it could be the snow was causing a problem and that just stopping and restarting gave the radar/sensors time to get back 'online'.

When we first got our Koraq, I noticed a warning pop up on the dash when first starting, and was concerned it was a possible fault. Eventually found out that it was one of the front radar/sensors that covered some safety function or another (can't remember which) but it was merely flagging up that the function was not active for about 30 seconds whilst things warmed up/adjusted themselves. Guess it was to stop us relying on whatever function it was only to crash because it was offline!

So I would only worry in your case if it starts happening more often and when there is no snow.

I'm pretty sure the lane sensors use a camera in the windscreen (behind the mirror) rather than the front radar sensor behind the grill. So it was probably snow on the windscreen?

Agree, but can't see how front radar can detect lines painted on the road! Perhaps the cameras are fitted, but disabled by software from providing lane assist function, but still tested for faults??

When it was first provided in 2016 Skoda said:

The new, optional Lane Assist in the new ŠKODA Superb helps the vehicle stay in lane on motorways and country roads. It reduces the risk of inadvertently leaving the lane. A camera detects lane markings in front of the vehicle from a speed of 65 km/h. When Lane Assist identifies an unintended departure from the lane, the system automatically initiates corrective steering.
