Prospective owner - I have a few questions

Featured Replies

Hello, I’m thinking about either a Superb or Kodiak around a year old.  Quite like the L&K versions as they have the toys I like.

Anyway,

If the car doesn’t have a space saver, is it possible to have one added?

if the car doesn’t have the retractable tow bar, is that something that the dealer can retrofit?

Any other things to look for?

Many thanks for taking the time to read this.

You can get a spacesaver wheel from the dealer (comes with a polystyrene block / jack etc)

I beleive that not all skodas can have towbar retrofitted? - certain options do not allow it for some reason?  Check beforehand.

Thanks for the reply. Will research the tow bar thing. It would be easier to find a used example with one already fitted of course but sometimes you can’t always do that.

There is no problem getting a towbar fitted but you do need to make sure you get the electrics integrated into the car and coded.

When I had this done in 2017 by PF Jones using a mobile fitter the total cost for everything was £518.

Regarding the tow bar, I think you will find the cost is considerably more for a MY21 car because it has locked down electrical system and requires specialist coding equipment.   Some tow bar fitters will have to out source this (as won’t be able to do it) so will need to add the extra cost incurred.

The L&K (and high spec versions) have also sorts of safety and proximity sensors to can’t bodge the coding

My 2016 L&K Estate came with a space saver. Not sure about newer models - probable deleted to save cost & weight in favour of a can of gunk.

Yes some used ones seem to have them, some don’t. I won’t buy a car unless it has a space saver as a minimum. To be fair, I’m leaning more to the Kodiak at present. Will have to get out and drive both when the showrooms are properly open. Thanks for the info. I probably should have put it in the buying a Skoda thread.

you can buy one and a kit to change the boot if it doesn't come with one, in my last car i speced it as an extra but now have an iv and no space for one.

I don't think a Kodiak is any better than a Superb unless all you want to do is sit higher up and probably don't mind sacrificing a few mpg for the privilege.

Can you get a space saver in the iV?. This may suit me more with a 3 mile run to the station and occasional 200 mile trips.
