Fuels and Oils Skoda Karoq 1.5 TSI Edition

Featured Replies

Hello I own a Skoda Karoq 1.5 TSI Edition.

I just noticed in the owners manual that the recommended petrol is 98 Ron. I have been using 95 Ron. Should I start refilling with 98 Ron? Any thoughts on this welcome.

Can anybody tell me what the recommended oil is for this car?

The car was new in Sept 2020. Mrs has only done 2500 miles since. Would it be recommended to do an oil change before the first service?

Thanks in advance

What does the sticker on the back of the fuel filler flap say 95 Ron/ 95 ron min or 98 ron ?

That comment prompted me to take another look re my Sept '18, 1.5 petrol. Both the fuel flap and manual state 'min 95ron'

took this from the owners manual:

Prescribed petrol 98 / (95) RON / ROZ
We recommend using petrol 98 ROZ.
95 RON petrol may be used as an option (low power
loss, slightly increased fuel consumption).
In an emergency 91. 92 or. 93 RON may be used
(low power loss, slightly increased fuel consump

The owners manual covers many options and counties that may not be relevant. As above, what does the fuel flap filler sticker say.

@Adam984Welcome to the forum.

What country are you in.   Are you in Europe / EU as that makes a big difference for the car / mapping / engine management & owners manual.

(You will find it hard in the EU / UK to find fuel with a lower octane than 95 ron.)

http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/need-help/need-help-faqs/fuel

For the UK the VW Group have not recognised that there is no 98 Octane super unleaded sold in the UK,

so if you choose to buy Super Unleaded in the UK it is 97 ron minimum or 99 ron minimum from Royal Dutch Shell, Tesco / Greenergy or ESSO / Greenergy.

The Skoda recommended oil for Fixed or Variable / Flexible Servicing is 0w 20 FS IV which is VW 508 00

5w 30 FS to VW 504 00 could be used for Fixed Service Intervals.

Some dealers are now saying they are using 0w 30 FS oil for Fixed Services.

Bottom Fuel Flap stickers where the 'Prescribed Fuel' was 98 Ron like on  VW GTI's & R's (Green Flap Sirocco R)

or Fabia Mk2 vRS 1.4 TSI Twinchargers. (Red fuel flap.)

I can’t comment on the 1.5tsi, but the 1 litre tsi is much happier with super unleaded, it pulls much better at lower revs

I actually did an experiment with my 1.0tsi DSG and found that around town commuting was getting about 11-13% better mileage with the 98 or 99 Ron fuel.  Not sure why it makes such a big difference but must be how the mix works, allowing more leaner mix during coasting or under low load.

Where I live pay about 10-11p extra per litre (about 9% more), so there is a net saving using super unleaded

You might need to do own experiments to see if it pulls noticeably better depending on topography and busyness of your local roads.

@SurreyJohn Really as much better economy as that with 97 or 99 Ron which can be as little as only 5 pence a litre more than 95 unleaded from Shell, BP, Esso etc,  even the same price.   Was the 98 Ron tried on mainland Europe where it is available?     Tesco momentum 99 or Sainsbury Super unleaded 97 only 5 pence a litre more expensive than their 95.

Yes, really was that much, but that was pre lockdown on a SW London / Surrey border commute where traffic lights etc mean lots of speed changes

Probably be lot less on an good cruising road

Don't waste money doing an early oil change our car had the first service after 21 months and 18,700 miles (manual 1.5TSi SEL Karoq) and now after 29,200 miles second service is due in 7 months according to the car's onboard computer and has always used 95 octane fuel. If I remap it to 185+bhp this year then it will get it to drink 99 octane Tesco Momentum. So far it has averaged 46mpg from new over 3 years.

If you plan on keeping the car, I would certainly get the oil and filter changed every 10k or yearly without fail. It only costs buttons to do and is so much better for the engine.

My copy of the downloaded Karoq 2020/07 manual has three consecutive paragraphs:

Prescribed petrol 95 / min. 92 or 93 RON / ROZ
We recommend using 95 RON petrol.
92 or 93 RON petrol may be used as an option (low
power loss, slightly increased fuel consumption).
In an emergency, 91 RON petrol may be used (low
power loss, slightly increased fuel consumption).

Prescribed petrol min. 95 RON / ROZ
Use min. 95 petrol.
Using higher octane petrol than 95 RON may result
in improved performance and lower fuel consumption.
In an emergency 91. 92 or. 93 RON may be used
(low power loss, slightly increased fuel consumption).

The filler cover in my UK 2.0TSI Karoq says Min 95 RON, so there is no need to use a higher rated petrol, although I am trying it on 98 (Super-Unleaded) for now.

As yours says 95 Ron minimum you are very likely to benefit from improved performance and better fuel consumption using higher octane petrol as in para 2 above.

Anyone with 95 recommended Ron sticker are very unlikely to experience any benefits and there is not much point paying the extra 5p a litre.

My 2.0 Tsi Kodiaq likes Tesco momentum 99.

@CJJE  Where are you finding 98 ron petrol in Wales to use?

There are no 98 ron retailers in the UK.

The 97 ron minimum might well be 99 ron, and the 99 ron min might well be 100 ron from EU winter Super Unleaded,

but no filling station pumps have 98 ron.

I'm in Staffordshire, not Wales, and I'm trying Teso's Super Unleaded. It may not be 98 RON from what you say, but since I haven't had to refill my tank since last November I'm a bit hazy on the details :)

Chris

'Tesco Momentum 99' is 99 ron minimum and can sometimes exceed 99 ron.

Some Tesco Express filling stations have ESSO  super unleaded which was 97 ron minimum but is now 99 ron min.
