I have taken the cluster to a good firm in Waterlooville hants called Cartronix who have tried but can not fix it and suggest I replace with either new or second hand. They told me if i buy second hand i need to make sure the Parts are the same for ref " 5J0920 941B" and then get it recoded, any one know where i can buy a cluster ? or any suggestion to get mine fixed.

Also was the vehicle plugged in to diagnostics as the dash panel does have the ability to store / log faults to be read

No error code present, Thanks for the link to ebay ads Im told the part number must be exactly  the same is this true ?

its always best to be the same...........unless you can be sure the ones with a diff letter suffix are a superceeded version, but its best to check with a dealer in that instance.

 

PS those I linked are the same.

 

EDIT..........if there are no error codes, maybe its a power supply issue.........if your handy with a soldering iron maybe worth taking apart and "reflowing" those connections at the power plug.

Those second hand clusters are a really good price!  I would be tempted to have a punt at that money. In the word of cars, <£25 is pennies really.

Crucially important, I would think.

 

Have you looked into what is involved in making a secondhand cluster work in a different car? My vague feeling is that it's not particularly straightforward.
