Octavia Strange Noise

Featured Replies

Hello,

i need help with some strange noise on Škoda Octavia, year 2015, 1.6 TDI with 7-speed DSG transmission. Car has mileage of 207.000km. I have made service (water pump, belts, oil, filters). Sound exists before service and is still present.

This noise appears when i gently press acceleration pedal. It is heard also when driving. It is somehow related with rpm/min

Does anybody know what is this sound that appears in video below? Did anybody know what is wrong and how to fix it?

It is really annoying to listen to this sound when driving with car.

Certainly doesn’t sound right, how about a baffle going in the exhaust system? Can the sound be heard from the engine bay?

Still did not figured out what is that sound,

I think we can rule out the possibility of coming from the gearbox, since i have the vRS with 6 speed. Also serviced the car, though as in your case the sound was there before.

For me i can only hear this sound when driving at about 10-15 km/h.

It sounds like a harmonic being generated in the exhaust system; probably a baffled humm caused by a vibration in the exhaust system.

Check the exhaust hangers all along the length of the exhaust - also make sure you have no small exhaust leaks (exhaust manifold) or around the silencers too.  It sounds like a metal to metal noise.

If physically no issues, then it is probably exhaust baffle related. Did you have the exhaust changed recently (207,000 kms is a lot of mileage) too?  Sometimes new exhausts can sounds buzzy and echoy like that noise which will go away after some carbon is deposited on the baffles.

I have this 'problem' too. 2015 Octavia 180k miles. Sound appears to coincide with the switching of a solenoid on engine bay bulkhead at approx 1100rpm. Sound starts then and stops just below 1100rpm - all the time. Has anyone got to the bottom of this yet, or have these old Skodas just faded away since 2021?! All views welcome!!
