Can the car react to speed limit signs?

Featured Replies

Question  about the car's ability to read road roads and react to them. I have Active Assist that reads road signs (as well as centering the car in its lane) but can it  react to speed limit signs and slow the car automatically? Or even at the press of a button? Feels like it should, and I know some systems can (new Nissan one eg)

I know some would shudder at this, but it sounds very relaxing to me (car driving with  kids needs to be as relaxing as possible).

Yes it does react to speed signs. If you have ACC.

Can I clarify if that's with ACC or PCC?

It's a genuine question as I thought the technologies were different.

Well its a PCC indeed. Downside of reaction to traffic signs is that it sometimes reads the wrong speed limit, e.g. When driving on a highway and when passing by the exits sometimes it reads the speed limit sign mentioned for the exit path, which can be quite dangerous if you are driving 130km/h and is suddenly shifts to 60 or 40 km/h...

Otherwise i find it rather usefull.

Sounds dangerous. Maybe it should beep to warn it’s going to change first.

I do have ACC, but I don't  know how to activate the sign reacting function though. Any ideas very gratefully received!

It has to be PCC I believe not just ACC

It's very handy. But it's reactive - in the sense that nothing happens until it's read and processed the sign -  I prefer to be knocking cruise off as soon as I see a speed limit sign in the distance. Most useful when the local authority can't make up its mind about speed limits and they're constantly going up and down. There's little evidence of a predictive function, except for the occasional "foot off accelerator - approaching roundabout" type of message.

This is on a 1.5 SEL with " Lane Assist with Traffic Sign Recognition " in the UK market. The relevant brochure describes the SEL as having ACC as standard, with "Travel Assist. Includes traffic sign recognition, adaptive lane assist, predictive adaptive cruise control and traffic jam assist." in the options list.

There is an option in the settings menu where you can decide weather you want the PCC to be active, e.g. To accelarate or deccelarate according to the spead limits or if you just want it to show you and preset the speed limit on the speed dial.

I find it useful to be turned on on the unknown roads so that speed limit cant surprise me

well, thanks all, I've found the switch in the menu to turn it on and it now works impressively well, even seems to reduce the ACC speed for bends (is that linked to the sat nav being on?).

As someone said, not sure why it can't anticipate upcoming limits rather than slowing after reading the sign given the nav knows what the speed limits are.

I ticked the  option box box marked Travel Assist in the  UK (only  £230 or thereabouts)
