Phone not auto connecting

Featured Replies

So I have a new Skoda octavia iv.

i have notice that the car often shows “connect phone” ( think it is the right translate from

swedish ) instead of “connecting automatically” I have the same problem with Bluetooth and apple care play. If I am not mistaking it should automatically connect to my phone as all other cars I have owned before.

funny thing is when it says “connect phone” I only need to open my door and it starts searching for it.

Same issue here. It connects randomly, not always. I just turn the car bluetooth off and on again and it connects automatically. SW version 1668

I have the same issue and same software. Very frustrating and shouldn't happen.

I don't have any such issues. SW version 1788.

I also suffer the identical issue.  My software version is 1668 Have tried again today for an update but none available!!

Do you mean you do it every time or just don’t that once?

There is a day when i have to do it over and over again whenever i turn on the car. On the other hand i get through days when there is no such issue and it connects automatically.

And i cant get to the bottom of it. Hope sw update (eventually) to 1788 deals with it once and forever

I have Huawei P20pro with Android10

I will try it, I’m also on 1668, funny to trie search for update and it just keeps searching for ever until I shutdown the car without allowing me to cancel or use the interface haha

Folks - the bluetooth modules needs the engine running prior to connecting to your phone.

Not true. It can connect also while the car is off and infotainment system on

Those updates are done only by authorised dealers, only minor infotainment updates are available via in car updates...as far as i am informed

Can also confirm this. Took my RS to the dealer two weeks ago and they updated from 1666 do 1688.  This made no effect on my bluetooth NOT connecting automatically.

As far as 1788 goes, for the time being, only cars with "Device part number (5E3035816_) ending in D and E can be updated to this version. Not sure if Skoda plans on providing this update for those of us that have C and below.

Also, Wireless Android Auto works only on the above mentioned part numbers (D ane E) running version 1788.

What is it with those device part numbers, ia that a different piece of hardware or what?

Mine is also C

AFAIK yes, a hardware revision. Apparently older HW part numbers have issues with 5Ghz WiFi that is a prerequisite for Wireless Android Auto. They also seemed to fix some bluetooth issues that were present on the "older models".

You can talk to your dealer about this (but I doubt they have any knowledge of this) but I'm guessing all we can do for now is wait for Skoda (like some miracle) to bless us with an update that fixes these issues.

I've heard of cases where they flat out denied that Wireless Android Auto is even available, when it clearly works on parts D and E with software 1788.

Hi,

Completely agree. There are variations in the hardware revisions that Skoda have made over the evolution of the product. Happens in all industries. To me, it's evident that a lot of issues (MPH/KPH, Wireless Android Auto, and potentially others) are dependant on the hardware revision, not just software/firmware updates.

I have started a case with Skoda to update my hardware, as in, replace the unit in my vehicle as it's not performing as specified. I don't expect to get much out of them, but the promised 'software updates' to fix my issues have not appeared and have been ongoing on other users cars with the same hardware revision since September(?)

I don't know, but if enough users complain and ask for hardware replacement it might spur on some action? (Dreamer! LOL)

hmm i never tought about that but now it's slowely getting clearer for me... i got my car on 28.8.2020 and had issues with assistance system errors practically since day 1. I dont even count how many times i've gone to dealer to resolve these issues (haven't complained about BT issue though)...Every time my car was being tested and updated with latest updates but no luck. Errors kept poping out. Since there was among errors one saying that SOS call is not working they also replaced the hardware (don't know how it is called) under the SOS and service buttons but neither did that help. I still have errors poping out. On my last "visit" to Škoda 2 weeks ago they decided to change one more part, don't know exactly where it belongs, but they reffered at it (in Slovene = krmilnik) as a "controller". For the timebeing i received a replacement car but since nothing happened in 4 days time i wanted some answers what the hell is going on with that controller replacement. They said that controller is out of stock, since so many cars have that issue and that they are waiting for it to get back on stock. For Slovenia a regional storage is located in Austria but there is no stock not even there. So i returned the replacemnet car and took mine back and now i am already waiting 8 days since than and still no stock nowhere....

And now I wonder, when eventually that controller gets replaced, could it be that i will have a newer device part number (ending in D, E, ...)??

I will give feedback here!

Checked my car today and its HW ends with a B. Car is built sept last year. Feels rather dull that they have so many revisions allready.

I have a March 2021 Octavia and exactly the same problem with my phone. Sometimes it connects, most times it doesn't.

Just sent a letter to Customer service so I will see what they say.

The best piece of help so far has been to "open and close the door", it connects right away!

If i get any helpful information I will post it here. . . . . . . fingers crossed.

Sadly i dont see any fix in the near future, I did get few updates a week ago but seems those updates didn’t do any thing for me, I have moved to using usb-c to lightning instead as I know it will connect without almost no problems.

i did hear that superb did get a big update and I’m unsure if we will get it as I heard from customer service there is one on they way but the mechanic said they haven’t heard about that.

another problem I have been having is that the screen goes black in apple CarPlay and revers camera, my fix for that at the moment is go gold the power button for the information system of what the f it is called until it reboots ( can be done while driving )

To hold down the power

System updates done by dealer only is a janky load of crap. Honda let the things go out OTA. No point having an OTA system if it's restricted to one subset of essentially irrelevant items.

I have noticed you cant have the phone connected via bluetooth and apple car play at the same time? My ford did this no problem and worked 100% ... seems a backward step
