Odd fault with key

Featured Replies

Hi all. I have got an odd fault here. I have two remote keys for my MkII Octavia (2009). One of them works perfectly. However, one of them stopped locking the doors remotely yesterday. I opened the car fine with it, put it in the ignition to check the dash cam, and when I turned the ignition off again, the key suddenly wouldn't lock or unlock the doors remotely! It does unlock the doors, and turn the alarm off, if put in the lock. I have changed the battery in the key this morning, but that has made no difference. I have looked at the various "put one key in the ignition and the other in the door" solutions, and nothing seems to make any difference. Both keys still seem to start the car fine. Is there something I am missing, or is it a case of off to the main dealers?

You don't say what year your car is but most have note in the handbook saying that when you change the battery in the remote you may have to re-synchronise the key fob. It then goes on to say how to do it.

If you don't have a driver's handbook, you can download a copy from the sticky post in the postings list.

Both keys will start the car because they only use the passive chip in the key fob to supply the immobiliser code.

Hi. Thanks for that. I did put 2009 in my original post! I looked in the Owner's Manual before posting, and all it says is "Press any button on the remote control". I've done that, and more besides, and it is not synchronising. I am out of ideas.
