Electric seats in Mk1 Octavia

Featured Replies

I have a feeling I'll be asking a few questions about this car....

Its a TDI 130 elegance with electric seats as standard. There is a noticable rock in the seat when changing direction, accelerating or braking. When out of the car you can grab the seat and move it. It's a very small movement and seems to be related to the bit of steel in the front-middle, the one with the logditudinal bar going to it. Anyone experience something similar? should I be worried?

TBH I don't really need electric seats and I wouldn't mind putting in some manual ones (golf leather ones or something) Is there any additional challenges to replacing the electric seats in the octavia with manual ones?

Thanks in advance

I’m pretty sure our MK1s Octavia’s never had an option for electric seats, even more so in an Elegance which is the basic of basic trim levels. Are they retro fitted or did you mean the MK1 Skoda Superb?

I had a feeling you were slightly off... so had to check - Elegance is the 3rd up trim level -

classic - basic

ambiente - med low (mine was this)

elegance - med high

vrs - shportee

L&K - top end

the "lx" ones below are the preFL trim levels.

however...

theres no electric adjustable seats optioned for the elegance or L&K

taken from parkers.

so... those electric seats were taken from another vehicle and retrofitted - possibly not very well if theres play in the mounting..

@mac11irl You're a star! Thanks for that, I keep forgetting the Ambiente too!

mk1 superb elegance had electric driver seat as an option.

Well whoever did it matched the trim perfectly, carried over the correct cloth and matched the passenger seat perfectly too

Flash really brings out ever speck of dirt... jaysus

colours look much closed in real life.

There's a local online auction for some black leather golf seats. Does anyone know how well the rears would fit?

Mk4 Golf seats are a straight fit. No modification needed.

They look like they are from a superb.

Do you say that because of the upholstry?

It matches the rear and is the same pattern as a previous elegance I had

I'm wonderin if there will be any spaces between the seats and the trim. I understand that the fittings are the same but, for example, will there be a large gap between the seat and the wheel arch into the boot?

No, as it's not hard to swap them over. The bases (the electrics) look exactly the same from the Superb model. Either way, they're not from an MK1 Octavia. They also could be from other models in the VAG range, MK4 and Bora for example as they're a direct fit.

This is the same seat in a MK4 Golf

Hello again,

Installed the VW leather seats - easy to do - there's a wee bit of play but it seems that the pressed joints loosen over time. Anyway. Much improved!

2 question:

the rears in the Octavia have the centre seatbelt installed in the the back rest. I assume in the Golf that it comes from the roof. Is it an MOT failure not to have a centre seatbelt? If so could I swap the backs?

Second: in the front drivers seat there is something the feels like the flexing of bowed plastic behind my back, as if a stiffener is out of place. Anyone familiar with that and know ow to fix

Cheers,

edit:

I think the seatbelt solution is to either install a lap belt or take out the seats for MOT

the plastic in the driver seat will be the lumbar support.

if you wind the knob and nothing changes, its broken.

i did a guide about 8 yrs ago on here, how to get in to it to fix/replace it. its somewhere in the octy guides section, with a pdf attatched

Interesting, Most of the posts i can find relating to broken L support are about the cable. I assume my cable is fine because my L control wheel works. When i twist it I can feel it working. With the Lumbar suporrt full out I can feel changes in where the plastic flexing is.

it may then be unhooked at the top or bottom? so its working but not properly attached to the frame.

So, I thought I'd update this post as I've just come across this (to me), the most well spec'd out Octavia I've seen.

This L&K seems to have electric seats? So I gather this must've been an option from the factory, unless it has been retrofitted, but I can't see it being in this example.

Multi-fuction steering wheel also, which is a nice touch.

It has Xenons too.

I'm pretty sure that's a retrofit. They weren't an option listed in the UK brochure, to my knowledge, but I guess they could have been offered in other regions and added to a RHD car afterwards.

This was my original thinking. Other regions also got the rear seat arm rest, and auto wipers.

It's not too far from me this car Dean. I'm tempted to buy it just for the interior although I think it's a bit overpriced so I'd struggle to sell it on. I'll keep an eye on it and see if it drops to around a grand.

It's overpriced, that's for sure. Let us know how you get on.

Where did you get this option list from? It does seem a little inaccurate. It doesn't state that heated seats can be an option for vrs however I have seen some here and there on ebay and on these forums with them. The same goes for the side impact airbags as an option for the vrs. Also Xenon lights are missing.

I assume this is because it is an early 2000s list. It would be really helpful/interesting if someone on here has a version of this or a brochure in general of a late mk1 Octavia.

I would have edited the last post, but I have found a later year version of the spec list from 2004 which states that electric seats and what I mentioned in the last post is actually an option.

Right, so you could only spec it on an elegance, at an extra cost. Which tally’s up with the pictures above. Obviously a rare option and probably wouldn’t take much to get it retrimed in the VRS style.

OP here: Re heated seats - Mine were heated: definitely factory, swapped them for some gti leather seats in the end, also heated; plugged right in.

The problem with the electric seats seemed to be slop in the mechanism. it was all bolted down correctly be it would shift while cornering. I guess whatever worm-wheel/threaded rod combination there was just wore out. worth knowing if you ever come across one
