Today , on the motorway coming back from Asda i wanted to change the temp. So pressed the CLIMA button and a message came up stating that the engine needed to be on to complete that function. So pressed the touchscreen and it now said the ignition needed to be on.

Im no mechanic but i think the engine was running as i was doing 60mph. Any ideas?

 

@Greezy56 I know that while driving the infotainment on my Mk3 TDI will say that the “Auto Start/Stop requires the engine to be running to operate”, as badly worded as it is, this is an indication that the car is doing a DPF regen. Doesn’t appear to affect the climate control though.

 

Could be a long shot in terms of your issue but worth considering. Hopefully someone with more experience with the Mk4 will chip in.
