What is this unused connector?

Featured Replies

İ think it's attached to the AC pipe front lower left in engine bay, there's no connector attached to it.

G65 pressure sensor; item 18 here: refrigerant circuit; a/c condenser - Octavia(OCT) [EUROPA 2006 year] (7zap.com), I think.

Presumably your A/C isn't currently working?

Correct, not working. I assumed it was just needing regarded but maybe not.

So it's unclear if anything actually plugs into this pressure sensor?

Well there should be a three way loom connector, ignition 12V, earth and signal/data out, otherwise the A/C won't work.  Can look up wire colours if you tell me what year the car is.

Yes, if you want working A/C.

What should be plugged in, there are no cables lying around and no other obvious connectors bear by?

Read the bottom paragraph.

Your talking about this?

Unplug 3-pin connector from high pressure sender -G65--1-.

İf so can you explain where this 3 pin connector would/should be there's no sign any cable around?

I can't say offhand where the wiring goes but will have a look at mine when the rain stops.

I'm fairly confident my G65 is mounted on the condenser rather than where yours and the diagram depict, a variation also mentioned in the bottom paragraph.

Sharing your vehicle's details may help.

I'm pretty sure that the system requires a connected G65 sensor in order to operate.

It could be that someone has bodged in some pipework (including that sensor) from a different car, and that your working/connected G65 sensor is elsewhere. Trace round all the engine bay refrigerant pipework looking for another.

Could you take another photo from further away? It's not very clear to me exactly where that is in the bay.

Another pic.

This is the connector but it seems previous owner has removed this wiring loom.

Are you able to find out where this connector plugs into, there's nothing obvious, it must plug into the relay box in the engine bay.

Only if you'll tell us what year the car is, and what type of A/C it has  (Climatic or Climatronic).

Is there no sign of anything cut off from that bit of loom closest to the sensor in the corrugated black tube descending next to the headlight unit

It's an 07 FSI 1.6l petrol though on most sites they identify it as an 08 model, sites like insurance after putting in reg.

I'm pretty sure it's climatic. This is the compressor part number.

There is no cut off loom, no clues at all, I've looked everywhere high and low, just nothing. There's a plug going into the compressor but I think this is to do with a solenoid in the compressor.

There's just nothing, no bits of cut cable, no ends, all other wiring is connected to something.

Pin 1 at the sensor is earth, a brown wire, going to some earth point in the engine bay loom.

Pin 2 is the signal, going to pin 5 of the 20-way black connector at the climatic control panel in the cabin, or pin 2 of the climatronic module if it's that system. It's a violet/yellow wire.

Pin 3 is the ignition switched 12V supply, coming from cabin fuse 4 on a black/yellow wire.

If the car originally came with A/C, I think these wires must be findable somewhere near that sensor. Bit of a mystery why they would ever have been 'lost' though.

You did have a look around all the A/C pipework in case there's another 'real' wired-up G65 somewhere, did you?  I think where you found it is the normal position though.

Ok thanks. So it looks like I need to remove and look behind the climate control panel in the cabin. It look like I can just hook this up, regass it and hope it works.

Does it says the amps of the fuse 4?

Why would anybody remove this, any ideas, just to delete the AC because it had some issue that wasn't worth fixing?

Not a clue.  The wiring must be there, close to the sensor. unwrap some loom near the sensor and look for those colour wires, all quite thin ones.

What's this bit of cable trunking going to?

I found it including connector it was indeed buried under that pile of cables you referenced, impossible to see until you moved the cables back. Thanks again.

So I tried the AC, should I be able to hear the compressor engaging when I press the AC button on the climate panel, I can't hear anything distinctive?

I'll just assume it's out of gas.

  • Sponsor

I doubt the compressor will even try to pump if the sensor says the system is low on gas.

No you wont hear it engaging, its a clutchless system, no it wont pump refrigerant if the system pressure is too low.

2 ways to find out:

1 if the A/C cools then its working but in this cold weather its really hard to tell.

2 Find someone with VCDS to check the standby pressure and the pumping pressure if operative.
