Used, High mileage Skoda Octavia Estate VRS Estate Buy / Avoid

Featured Replies

I am interested in buying a used Skoda Octavia Estate VRS Estate, the 2017 model I have seen is within my budget - it is priced at 10k. However, the reason it is in my budget is because of the high mileage (123k). It has full dealership service history ( I have been sent the info), and the cambelt was changed at 119k miles. It was owned by Lex Auto Lease - so I presume it was an ex company vehicle.

Should I avoid this car, or is the mileage an issue? I don't do a massive amount of miles, but I might be travelling more to holidays in the UK, with COVID for the near future.

Also what other questions should I be asking the seller (its a very small one man band dealership, which also concerns me a little). Thanks for any help. See below service history.

Welcome to the forum.

That is some amount of punctures.

EDIT.   *********************

The DSG Oil changes were done past the 40,000 mile intervals.

One is due now though to have the 3rd one at 120,000 miles, and not the 40,000 miles after the last DSG oil change done at 87,000 odd miles.

yeh good point, that's concerning!

They stretched the Oil / Filter / Servicing time beyond the 18,000-20,000 intervals, but then the car was busy so that can easy get to 23,000 miles between services.

See the EDIT, i did.

I put it in the wrong place.

The DSG Oil change should get done now rather than waiting another 4,000 miles or so and you paying for it.

You have a full history of what the car has. Yes the intervals have been stretched out but only very slightly. It has been taken care of and the mileage wouldn't put me off. The only thing to check is the dpf levels.

Go and try and stand in front of the car - if it has been used and abuse, then it will be obvious in the interior, under the bonnet and wheels.  Look at the alloys - with so many tyre punchers, I would be looking at the alloys and wheel alignment.  Check and see whether the previous owner has 'cared' for the car; quality of tyres and whether the interior mats are still there.

Looks okay to me. It's had loads more work done to it than my 2015 1.6 TDi and she's on 190k. As for punctures I get loads. I'd take it as my next taxi lol.

Spend a couple of ££ on Parker's Guide website for an accurate valuation, including mileage adjustment.  I think that's a little overpriced for the mileage.

I'd also look at gov.uk for the  MOT history. I know it's only had two (or should have) - Jan 20 and Jan 21 - but that mileage could show a lot on the MOT records.

Get close and look along the sides for panel irregularities - possible accident damage.  The Black Magic Pearl is a lovely colour but should show any respray work if you look carefully.

Over 30,000 miles a year, and one of those was a year of lockdown - what was it being used for?

Diesl? Get a DPF report. They can need replacing from 100k - although if its a motorway car, you'd expect it to last a lot longer, but it might still be full and need replacing quite soon.

What is the police admin fee I wonder? :) Also the Parking Eye admin fee. Sounds like a company has been paying their staff's speeding and parking fines!

Not speeding. PKF=Parking Fines. I imagine that the fines are sent to Lex Leasing.

The amount of visits to Kwik Fit is alarming! Need to see the car in the flesh really. Got any links to online advert so we can have a nosey?

Will likely have been to Kwik Fit a lot as it was a probably a maintained lease and they would have been the ‘approved’ place to take the car.

Could be a mistake, but what’s that hydraulic fluid change at 108k? I thought that most of, if not all, O3 have electric power steering?

At a guess, it'll be the brake fluid as it's at approximately 3 years old.

Impressive number of punctures though... :D

Never considered servicing being undertaken at Kwik Fit as part of a fleet contract, Sasha. Make sense.

My old vRS was the same, was a maintained lease through Lex and everything but routine service went to Kwik Fit as they were the authorised service partner so all the tyres etc included as part of the maintained lease were done by Kwik Fit. Routine service was at a Skoda dealer but otherwise all the stuff was done at Kwik Fit. Mine had under 70k when I got it, sold with 133k on it 3.5 years later. Was flawless but it never went to a Kwik Fit after it left Lex haha
