Anti-theft solutions

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

after yesterdays movie-like chase of my friend's stolen Fiat 500 Abarth (fitted with gps tracking device) I started wondering what kind (if any) anti-theft solutions do you guys use on these modern cars?

Is it Skoda Connect app in any use if car is stolen? Can you track your car movement in real time or it's mostly just useful for parking location? I'm planning to test this by myself in the following days.

Any ideas/feedback/experiences would be appreciated.

In my experience, physical deterrents are most effective in actually preventing an attempt, rather than foiling one. I’ve a good old fashioned disk lock that I’ll be putting on my vRS each night.

You mean a lock for the steering wheel or something else?

Yes the one that completely covers the wheel. Like this one. 👍🏼

Thanks for the pic.

Where do you put it when you are driving? Does it stay in your car? Or you unlock the disk wheel and put it in the garage or similar?

You need it with the car to put on as a anti theft device when the car is left parked. So if no passenger maybe on the floor behind your seat or securely in the boot.

Makes sense yes.  I thought it's used mostly when the car is parked for a longer period.

Anyone has any thoughts on built in gps and the Skoda Connect app?

It is a Skoda so park next to am Audi and they will take it, or a MK1 Fabia vRS even.

On my commute I put in the passenger footwell. If out with the family I’ll stick it in the boot.
Or you could leave it at home and only use for overnight deterrent.
For me, there will always be people who want someone’s nice new car, but if they see mine WITH that lock and another car without, then they choose the other one. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I guess this would be true for a random heist. :) But not for a planned and organized one.

Planned and organised toerags are well planned and organised, opportunists go for the easiest targets so a visual deterrent works well, but then if they just want something out of the car they will just centre punch your window.

I agree on that.

Planned and organised would be when they have a buyer, which is in the vast majority of cases for high value vehicles or newly launched vehicles in the media spotlight - neither of which categories would IMHO include a Skoda.

Don't get me wrong, I love my Octavia but having come from an Audi RS4 (which received a lot of media coverage at launch and some people were even selling them at a profit for several months after launch) the difference in attention from media, public and scrotes is very noticeable.

I know Octavia can't compare to an Audi RS4. Even the prices are far away. But still, VAG group cars are quite popular among thieves here in Slovenia. And at the same time, the new Octi is the car of the year 2021 here.
