Glowplug light flashing

Featured Replies

My 2013 Fabia 1.2 Greenline has a flashing glowplug light when driving,  There are no fault codes logged and it does not go into limp mode when driving,  Can any one shed light on what the problem may be?

no fault code logged on what ?

if the light is on there IS a code, just needs to be read by a capable diagnostic tool. There is a fault in the engine "control" somewhere.

My 1.6 tdi had once (6,7 years ago), the glow plug flashing while driving on A road.

Driving about 20 mins after that, stopped at a service station, engine off,  started the engine again, the flash thing disappeared, and never went back.

Might be different case from yours.

Unfortunately, it could be a number of things so elimination is key, here. Might be a blocked DPF, a duff EGR valve, I even remember a fault when the brake light switch went, caused a funny light which seemed to have no bearing on the issue! Check the brake lights are coming on just to be sure. It may well have been a totally different light but something happened when the switch or a few bulbs went and not just the bulb warning fault!

Oh, get the battery fully charged too and be sure it is good.

My mk1 has a flashing glow plug light stemming from removing the brake light switch fuse so I could left foot brake. Brake lights still work but I can left foot brake, only after the cars been run for 10 minutes or so, for some reason.

all the guess work is a bit pointless.............it needs plugging in.

The light is flashing because you've removed the fuse, far better to simply short out that half of the switch which tells the ECU you're pressing the brake pedal.

P0407 refers to the EGR valve and P0046 to the turbo actuator, neither are related to DPF sensor you've already changed.

Last time [or the only time] I've ever got a flashing glow–plug light has been when one of my rear brake lights has been faulty.

I know the above is for me at least 100% true because exactly the same used to happen with my Bora. On replacement of the faulty brake light bulb, flashing glow–plug light was rectifed.

Were you guys able to start the engine ? Several days befor I was on a long trip and in the middle of ride glow-plug started flashing and the performace was descreased, I wasnt even able to speed up in 5th gear (lower gear worked), so I stopped at the gas station, tured off the engine (hoping that engine off-on will solve it temporarily) and wasnt able to start the engine from that point. I tried a backup key (Immobilizer fault), replaced the battery but unfortunately non of them solved the issue. It seems like the engine starts but the system immediately blocks it.

I got the car checked but no error codes were read out. Some friend told me there might be a faulty fule injector nozzle.

What can you suggest guys ?

PS. : Befor the last few rides the iddle speed was unstable.

From my experience of MK1, a flashing glow plug has occurred when my brake switch went faulty. On Mk1, it's a two contact assembly, one pair make (presumably to light lamps) and other pair break (presumably to talk to ECU). I've tried LED lamps in brakes to get same result. Best to check out if brake light/lights light. If none ( test lamp). if good suspect brake switch. On MK1 its a dawdle after removing trim below steering wheel
