Flashing red light on keyless key fob

Featured Replies

Hi all

picked up my new VRS yesterday and for some reason the key fob flashes red constantly  when the car is locked and I’m within 5/10 metres. As soon as it’s further away it stops. Problem is my drive is side of house so pretty much picks up signal everywhere in house

Anyone had this before? Is it normal? My thoughts it will just drain battery

I haven't noticed this but then I don't really look at the key. I'd say you need to turn off kessy as anyone could certainly walk up to your car and unlock it if the key is still in range.

Hey,

tried this my with my partner attempting to get in car with key still with me flashing in house and doesn’t work unless key is right next to car, just confused by the flashing when locked

That's very odd then. Like you say think it'll drain the battery

My key doesn't flash when I'm 5 to 10 meters away from the car. Could be the battery? Maybe it is defective battery out of the factory. What about the other key? Does it flash also?

It seems to now stop flashing after just over 4 mins if I don’t move key, as soon as move flash again!

my retailer forgot to order the second key which was great for a 250 mile round trip to collect. So I get that next week then need to get it coded

Strange. I'll try to go closer when it stops raining and see when/if it will start flashing.

You shouldn't need to do that distance, a local retailer should be able to order a correctly coded key for you if you visit them, as they can take all the specific details they need directly from the car.

The light on both my key fobs flash randomly for a short period when well away from the car. Cannot find out why. Car two weeks old so assume batteries are OK

The key flashes to say its still activated when you leave your car after a few  minutes your key turns off until you move it. Its a safety feature so theaves cannot read your key and nick your car

Thanks for the info. Couldn't see that in the handbook.

I've noticed if you move one fob, it starts flashing again, but so does the other fob even though it's not been moved. So if second (spare) fob is within scanning range for theives, and you keep your main keys safely distant (bedside table perhaps) , the spare might become scannable without you moving it. Slim possibilities, but still.

One idea would be set off car alarm in middle of the night by rocking car (if that would do it). Owner disarms alarm with main keys. Thieves now have a few minutes to complete scan while fobs are activated.

I have had my car for over 4 months. Right from the first day I noticed all 3 of my keys, including the 2 that I never use, flash occasionally. I never could understand why. At first I thought it was trying to tell me the battery was low. That seemed unlikely on all 3 new keys.

Now I just ignore it.

I've had my new Octavia RS for a few months now and the car is telling me to replace key fob battery already. Is that acceptable? Should I ask for a new battery free of charge ?

Are you seriously going to bother asking for a 1£ battery?

Btw did anyone find a decent key cover (not the cheep plastic ones you find in Chinese sites)

Flat battery last Sunday, Skoda Assist (AA) mans reckons flat battery likely caused by having the radio on or music playing via Apple Play without the ignition on and cockpit display green light 'Ready'.  On Saturday when i last used the car, i drove 3  trips each less than 25 minutes and probably music on without engine in "Ready' for an hour and half or so.

A salesman at the Skoda dealership - i am going to use for servicing, having no confidence in the Sk dealership from whom i bought the car - tells me that his colleague had problem of battery flat caused by permanent close proximity of the lossy to the parked car. As the fob red light flashes even when the fob is moved ever so slightly, that combined with anything else on in the car, and short journeys not charging the battery 100%, it all adds up.

It's definitely normal as mine does it but turns off when I'm 3 or 4 metres away.  I think it's a safety feature to tell you to keep your key further away.

Umm I’ve just experienced this today, just set myself up as the primary user etc went in to the hs and 10 mins later both keys still flashing 🙈

Ok so as others, all I had to do was take them out of range.. 😏
