Kamiq Boot Leak

Featured Replies

Having got used to the vagaries of the front assist software and the wheel spin on departure of my Petrol Blue Kamiq 1.5 tsi SE (built 17/9/2020, delivered 22/10/2020), I was getting to rather enjoy it ...until today even though most of its 2k miles have been my elder son travelling back and forth from Epsom to Wimbledon.

Spring being (nearly) in the air I thought I’d give it a thorough in/out clean. I lifted the boot floor which I found was was damp underneath and found lots of clear water in the spare wheel well, some rust and rust patches on the wheel itself. I’d read the threads on condensation but this seems so much worse. One of the photos (3) shows a paint-coloured patch just near the wheel boss retainer. All of the seals look intact and the only evidence of damp on the rest of the boot trim is right at the bottom of the n/s light cluster where the boot floor touches. The shiny reflection in photo 4 is water.

This surely can’t be normal.

Water ingress certainly isn't normal.  I would get the car booked in with your Skoda dealer as soon as you can and get it repaired under warranty.  If as you say the water is clear, then it cannot be coming from the rear washer system which usually has coloured water in it.  You'll need to keep a close eye on it after the repair as you cannot guarantee that the dealer will fix it first time round.

Probably coming in through the light cluster

Tom, do you use a pressure washer when cleaning your Kamiq?

Hi Brian,

Thanks for your response, and nbramwel and skoda1982 too. No, I wasn’t using a pressure washer.

I booked it in to the supplying garage in Croydon. When I bought the car I had asked for an oe rear camera to be fitted. Marshall’s found that a grommet had been omitted!!!, and this from a contractor who they always used.

They replaced the spare wheel. It’s labelled for a Fabia and I haven’t checked yet whether it has the same stud pattern etc, but I will shortly.

I was promised a foc invoice but haven’t had it yet . I guess I should follow it up because I’m worried a little about corrosion down the line; I hope I never have cause to need to prove why it may have arisen.

The camera problem and the lack of height adjustment on the front passenger seat will remind me to spec my own car rather than grab a stock order in future.
