Are Mk1 and Mk2 fabia wishbones the same?

Featured Replies

Hello again everyone.

I plan on getting new bushes and ball joints for my 2012 Monte Carlo. I'm wondering if the mk1 fabias wishbones are the same as the mk2 as I know much of the common weakpoints are shared between them (i.e console bushes). I only ask as If they are the same part I could use my mk1s wishbones, clean them up and do all the bushes on them, then put those into my mk2 and put the mk2s back onto my mk1 to keep it rolling. I'm hoping that they are the same piece because it would leave it a case of just swapping in the refreshed wishbone, instead of having my Monte Carlo out of commission for a day or two getting it done.

Also, I saw some console bushes made by PSB, are they a decent make of bush or should I just get the cupra ones instead?

Thanks again.

Only the first few mk2's had the same wishbone.  Look at this page, first two diagrams. front axle, steering Fabia (FAB) [EUROPA 2008 year] (7zap.com)

First diagram same as mk1, second diagram, different at the back end (horizontal bush within wishbone)

Last 8 digits of the VIN can tell you which diagram is appropriate for any given mk2; most will be the second diagram.

D3006494 is the last 8 digits of mine. Its a Facelift so it must be different. Good job I asked first then.

The way the chassis number before/after works in that page is like this:

Firstly the >> 5J-xxxxxxxx means up to that chassis number;

When it says 5J-xxxxxxxx >> it means from that chassis number onwards.

You'll see they're one different in each case.

The first character after the 5J- on those pages is actually the 10th digit of the VIN  (the 9th is represented by the dash - and is irrelevant). It's the Model Year.

So the changeover happened during model year 2008.

MY2009 cars would have a 9 there instead, 2010 will have A, 2011 B etc. So I guess yours is MY2013.

Interesting, Mines a August 2012 registration so probably too new to be able change them over.
