Service interval

Featured Replies

Just looking through the MySkoda app and it is showing an oil change is due in 12,700 miles/418 days and service is due in 19,499 miles/634 days.

When did Skoda start seperating oil changes and services like this?

Mine is saying "not found" and I assumed it was was they displayed when on a variable service but it would not tie in with yours...

I think the vehicles are set to the variable' service/oil change interval, using long life oils and sensors to determine when work needs doing. IIRC its up to 2years or 20k miles but may be less based on driving style, loads etc.

Mine shows the same number of days, yet a slightly different mileage for the two items.

@Coume I reckon the Oil Change being 'Not Found' is because you haven't yet done much mileage. A few hundred more and it ought to show up.

@fossman I'm guessing the oil sensors are indicating an oil change ahead of other service items. Such a disparity after a low mileage seems a bit odd though. Perhaps a chat with the dealer to clarify is in order.

There is Fixed Service Intervals or Variable Service Intervals.

There used to be Minor or Major Services time about, or Major & Major.  Then Skoda started calling them Interim & Major instead of Minor & Major.

There never were 'Inspection Services' that did not Include the Oil & Filter Change.

(There were 'Body Inspections' for the Corrosion Warranty.)

**The Body Inspection should be done when the car is in for 'Main Dealer Servicing'  and shown on their system. No extra cost to owner.**

So now Skoda call the Fixed Services 'Oil & Inspection Services', and Extended Scope.

The issue with German to Czech, to Spanish, or to English or US English is it got lost in translation someplace around in the VW Group.

The brochure makes it clear (on page 31 of 33)

If you have variable servicing will be between 9000 and 20,000 miles, or upto 24 months, which comes first.

Looks to me that Op’s car is suggesting new oil at 13,200 miles or 24 months which (unless my maths is dreadful) is between 9000 and 20,000, and not far from midpoint of this range.

Based on current mileage might be at the 24 months point anyway, so both will need to be done together, and by luck 13,200 miles also a sensible point to get tyres swapped front-back.

What becomes interesting is the servicing of Plug in Hybrids and servicing by 'miles' & 372 days if on Fixed Service Intervals.

9,400 miles mainly done or fully on Electric without the Petrol Engine being started.

The Inspection part of the vehicles tyres, brakes, steering, suspension etc might well be needed.

As to if they want the oil and filter changed at this interval will be up to them as it will fall into the used to do not many miles and the oil never getting up to temp.

That might well apply with the Engine & Battery covering equal use in a year.

Leaving the engines Oil & Filter changes for 24 months might not be 'Simply Clever', especially if that means the other visual checks are not done for 24 months from the car having a PDI.

I'm on a 2 year lease and my previous cars have always been set to 2 year service plans, I usually get away with not paying for a service by handing the car back a few days early.

I'll see how this pans out in the next 12 months but will probably end up getting a 12 months service done after 13 months.

My new iV PHEV had Oil Change interval 15 000km(9320 ml)/365 days when I got the car.

after reading all comments, i would like to express my opinion :D

for tfsi i would suggest to change oil every 7-10k km (4.5k-6k miles) depending on how heavy your foot is.

there is no oil that can be used tor 15-20k, sure if you do not care about engine health after few years, that is different story.

as well i would strongly suggest to change oil not based on KM/Miles but on seasonality, especially places where temperatures goes from +20 to -20.

============

that being said for current car, which is diesel volvo i do change my oil after every 5-6k km,(lots of city driving, meaning sitting in traffic, with engine running) as well i do make sure starting winter i have fresh oil in engine. Car is remapped, DPF deleted and being driven accordingly :)

car is almost 300k km on clock, engine works like Swiss watch, because of proper oil changes.

9,400 mile / 372 day intervals are just fine for oil & filter changes in the UK for TSI's,  even the lemon's that were some of the Euro 5 TSI's from the VW Group.

That is with Long Life oil or not.

4.500-6,000 mile oil and filter changes might suit those that do not do many miles a year and are happy wasting money and oil.
