Well I got nicked for speeding on Friday night.

I have no excuse, I was doing 93km/h in an 80km/h zone and was caught by a hidden plod with a radar gun.

$80 fine and 20 demerit points (100 in 2 years gets you a 3 month ban). I don't know if they can apply the points as I don't have an NZ licence yet. Maybe I'll get my licence with points on already when I apply.

What's really annoying is that in all the 100km/h sections I had the cruise control set on at about 101. I turned it off in the 80 limit but I was accelerating to catch up with the other traffic.

The officer was very polite - none of the typical sarcasm - and said "have a good night" as he went!

Perhaps he just wanted to take a look at your car.

The police attitudes (politeness) seem different over there, though they are very strict about issuing fines and won't budge an inch. But perhaps this could be because they are held in greater respect in NZ. In Britain there is a tremendous lack of respect for all authority figures.
