2003 Fabia 1.4mpi AQW draining battery

Featured Replies

Hi, everyone so lately my Fabia wouldn't start so I checked the voltage of the battery with a multimeter and was 6 volts so I thought that the battery was busted, so I bought a new one, but after 4 days the new battery went dead again, so I re charged the battery and noticed that when I install the negative pole with the battery that it was sparking quite a bit and for some reason the front wipers make a small movement I don't know if this is related also I removed the radio to make sure that it wasn't draining the battery... But still draining the battery. NB: the door lock micro switch is good at least when I leave the lights on the buzzer works. Any idea what could be the problem. Many thanks. Cheers

Hi, thanks for your info, when I turn the ignition switch the light comes on and when I start the car and rev it to 1500rpm the light goes off. And  last time I checked the voltage of the battery with the engine running it was 14.6volts so I'm guessing that the alternator is working fine

OK. The battery light should go off immediately after the engine starts, but it may be that because of low battery charge the alternator is feeding a lot of current to the battery as soon as it starts to generate, causing its output voltage to dip as it does.  Raising the revs raises the amount of current it can generate.

The sparking and slight wiper movement at reconnection of the battery lead is normal I believe.

You probably do have a parasitic current problem, so maybe try measuring voltage across some fuses as described in this thread:

Pay particular attention to cabin fuse 43 and make sure the car is fully shut down before measuring, by flicking the driver's side door latch closed while the door is still open for fusebox access (so the car thinks all the doors are shut) and leaving the car untouched for 30 minutes.
