new discs and pads for 4x4

Featured Replies

ok I need new discs and pads for my car in a few thousand miles. what options do I have away from the standard ones? Bearing in mind I would prefer them to be of 'reasonable' cost and last a long time. the rest of the car is currently standard, but I figure that as the brakes need renewing, now is a good time to maybe upgrade! Would be interested to know how lifespan of performance brakes compares to standard ones as well. And any insurance impacts.

I have a mate who could help me fit them myself who has done brakes before, but would prefer them to be fairly simple!

cheers!

Standard discs, DS2500 pads and decent fluid would be a reasonable improvement. If you're after a bit more than a 312mm setup on the front would be a cost effective upgrade that still fits behind 16" wheels.

do the 312mm setups fit straight on?

You need calipers carriers and discs. The calipers themselves and the pads are exactly the same. Golfturbo sells complete kits at a reasonable price although you won't need the calipers which he includes.

Not sure what JBS charge but I've been talking to a briskoda member (won't say who as they may not want it public) whose 4x4 is booked in soon for a 312mm upgrade.

I'm a 4x4 owner and I've got the discs and caliper carriers ready for this upgrade. Once I get someone to help me out, I'll let you know how it goes.
