RECALL

Featured Replies

i received a letter from skoda yesterday, recalling my car (2013 2.0tdi cr 170bhp 6 speed dsg 4x4)

safety recall 97dr-software update for body control module.

has anyone els got this?

dose anybody know anything about this problem they are trying to fix?

and is there any other recalls on my car that i should know about?

cheers kev

Hello,

Is this the recall you're referring to? If so, it's to fix a potential lighting issue on facelift Superbs with LED DRL/sidelights/indicators and involves a software update by the dealer.

Cheers,

Dave.

yea i think that is the one safety recall- 97dr -software update for body control module

can anyone advise me on the recall for something to do with diesel emissions, just spoke to skoda dealership to book my car in for the software update and they informed me that my car needs to have some work done concerning diesel emissions, the reason i am asking is that he said some people decline having it done !

i am trying to find out why they refuse and the reason why?

cheers kev

To @Kevgem - Many people refuse to get "Diesel Emissions" update because this update have negative effects to "EGR" and "DPF".

so what is it that they are trying to do ?

and why are they doing it if it is known to give problems in another area i.e EGR & PDF ?

touch wood the car is running fine, i had a little trouble a couple of months ago but nothing a new battery couldn't sort out

i had it coded in, and had the car checked for any other faults which there was none no codes at all.

fingers crossed it stays that way lol !

so i am a little concerned to let them start pocking around with my car and coursing problems with him mentioning the emissions strait away i am thinking ( mot test ) and emissions failure is this the case?

There are two separate recalls.

The first is part of the emissions scandal. Basically VAG were caught emitting more NOx than they were suppose to and produced a software update to reduce the NOx production. To do this, they've changed the fuelling and EGR usage. This has various negatives including but not limited to:

- possible increased fuel usage

- possible drivability changes

- EGR issues due to partially clogged EGR that are now being asked to move more

- DPF issues as reducing NOx production increases particulates and mean the DPF needs to regen more often

These are some of the reasons that people (including myself) refused the optional software update. It has no effect on the MOT as the NOx levels aren't tested.

The second recall is to either update the BCM software or tweak the lighting configuration. I believe the issue is that some LED bulb failures aren't causing a bulb out warning like they should. It would probably be possible to confirm what the second fix does if I had access to the same car before and after the recall action.

They should be able to only perform the second update but you'll need to get it in writing so you can hold them to account if they do both.

just canceled the emissions job and going ahead with the software update!

think al give the emissions one a miss why do something that can potentially give you problems, if it ant broke leave it alone lol

FWIW I did go ahead at the time with the electronic lobotomy on my previous car - 170 CR Octy vRS - and can't say I noticed any real difference.

Tellingly though, my trusted independent VAG specialist who has looked after my cars for umpteen years did tell me that he had had a disproportionate number of EGR failures coming in on cars post-fix, and he put it down to them being over-worked by the re-map.

Probably wise therefore to avoid if there are no other penalties or repercussions from doing so..

Re body control module - I've not had a recall letter and mine is a facelift - it's not listed as needing a recall on the gov.uk site either. I wonder if it is because mine is the poverty spec and has filament front indicators (LED rear).

Re emissions - Do you still get a 2 year warranty on emissions related components - eg EGR valve - after the diesel emissions update? Just mentioning as some early adopters of this recall made good use of the extra warranty. Clearly this one not relevant for mine as it drinks from the other pump.

In Ireland at least the Trust Building Measure is still active. The EGR valve on my car threw a fault code and put the car in limp mode two weeks outside the 2-year period at the start of this year. Skoda agreed to pay 90 % of the replacement cost with little or no argument.

I've never noticed any driveability issues since having the update done. If anything, it's punchier at low revs than before the update. The DPF does regenerate more frequently but at the mileage I do, I'll be surprised if I have to replace it before I get rid of it.

One thing I've found interesting is the accounts of owners whose cars were updated unknown to them and never noticed any difference
