Factory reverse cam static

Featured Replies

Heya folks,

I noticed that when i use my reverse camera (factory fitted), it has a minor static on the image.

When i start moving the vehicle in reverse, or when it gains a bit of speed the static gets much worse to the point of the camera going black.

Issue appears to be worse on a colder day, no difference if lights are on or off

I tried recording it on a hot day, which doesn't show the static all too well but you can clearly see the camera cut off the moment the car moves a little faster.

I assume this is a power supply issue, bad ground?

Where are the ground points for the camera?

Did this happen to anyone else? And do you know of a fix? :)

So - its going to be either a problem with the power to the camera or the video feed to the camera is failing.  Suspect it is the video feed (because if it was power to the camera, you would see some visual artifacting from the camera powering up and down).

That looks like a lowline camera, if I remember correctly, they are triggered from the reversing lights.

Are your reversing lights stock or have you replaced them for LEDs?

Thanks for the reply,

My Octavia had factory LED lights.
I did upgrade them to the facelift LED's, however this issue was around before i did that.

It does appear to be some sort of static, like interference. Is there a fuse for the camera atleast?

No MK3 Octavia gets LED reversing lights as stock. They use P21W halogen bulbs :)

If your reversing lights are LED, I'd suggest trying normal halogen bubs just to rule them out creating interference.

Oh whoops, i mean the tail lights were factory LED.

The bulb themselves are just ordinary p21W halogens.

Apologies, English isn't my native language :)

I believe fuse 18 in the passenger cabin is for the rear camera.

The wiring is pretty simple for a lowline camera. It should be similar to the below diagram but there might be some LHD/RHD differences and the colours may vary by year :)

Thank you kindly, i'll use this to track for any bad connections :)

I have found the issue.

I had retrofitted usb sockets for the rear passengers. I used an addin fuse to power these.

That addin fuse was very close to fuse 18 for the rear camera.

When I disconnect my retrofit, the camera's static was allot less.

I have now decided to build a T loom for the cigarette socket. That way my retrofit stays away from the fuse box.

Thank you all for the advice and the schematic. :)
