I’m going to do a service  on my VRS. The GSF web site lists two types Oil filter for mine. How can I confirm on top of the reg check.

Check by pulling the old one temporarily to measure.

Okay cheers. Picked oem one up today from main dealer. They didn’t sell oil so any recommendations ?

A main dealer filter... at what cost?

They didn't sell oil!  Incredible.

Use any oil that meets or exceeds the spec recommended in the owner's manual (see sticky on this forum).

You don't specify your engine code so the following is my guidance.

PD engines with fixed servicing schedules use VW 505.01 or VW 507 spec oil unless fitted with a DPF then only VW 507 spec is permissible.

PD engines with extended servicing schedules use VW 507 spec oil only.

CR engines with fixed or extended servicing use VW 507 spec oil only.

Theoretically the cheapest oil that meets your desired spec from a reputable brand is the best buy but you'll always get those with preferences and horror stories.  I would suggest you stay away from supermarket own brand varieties, don't ask me why!

They probably only have barrels of oil.

My last place had a 1500 litre container for the common stuff and barrels for the rest. A barrel is almost 160 litres.

Actual price very reasonable. Even more so after recent aftermarket buys that were wrong ( relying on vehicle reg system. Having worked with the Oil supply system pays to get reputable make. I was once a fan of Comma oils but not sure if they are still around

That’s a good price for a reputable oil ( Fuchs) . I settled for comma oil in the end but will certainly keep this in mind

Don’t forget to note down the make and part number printed on the filter, for next time😀

Yes good idea. I’ve saved the box in my service manual. Now need to measure Fuel and Air filters so can order decent quality ones
