Battery SOC

Featured Replies

Hi,

When I enter the menu to check the SOC (State of Charge) of the battery, I always get the same -> --%
Does anyone knows what is the problem?
Is there something wrong or is my car missing this option? :D

Thanks in advance :)

hi Nevals, welcome to the forum. Battery SOC display was discontinued sometime before MY16 (late 2015)

Hi, thank you.

So basically, the option is there on the screen but it doesn't show anything :D
Good to know.

Yes, that's how mine is - I rather suspect that VAG did this to prevent complaints about the lower state of charge that the battery usually sits at due to the micro-hybrid, energy recuperation system.

BTW, I'm wondering what will happen if I take out the battery out of the car to charge it?
Will everything reset, like the settings in the car, windows, remote locking, etc.

Hi, I've never done it - but I understand from other posters that you will get an instrument-cluster full of fault codes on reconnection, which should clear by themselves after a short run on the road. Infotainment pre-sets shouldn't be affected.

If you just need to charge then use the ground for negative and positive on battery positive

Can confirm that's how I've been charging mine, with the negative on the tab pointed out in the video and positive on the battery positive

I need to take out the battery to be able to charge it, so it would be out of the car for couple of hours.
Not sure if that could cause any issues.

You don’t need to remove it to charge it, but saying that I guess you have on street parking which is going to be a faff

Exactly.
So only way is to remove it and charge it home :D

Is your battery not starting the car? If it does start much easier to go on a motorway for 30 minutes or so.

I’ve rarely used my car (6k miles roughly 6k in 4 years) but make sure I go on the motorway now and again and it’s been fine

It's starting the car but not so quick as it should.
I went to a specialist who told me that the charge level is really low, although the battery itself is totally fine.

So the quick drive on a motorway would not completely solve it.
I guess it needs really long drive or charging :D

Hi Nevals, a full charge to 100% will really be of benefit to the battery. Is your battery still the original? Is it EFB - or AGM?

Hi, it's AGM as far as I know.

You could get a solar panel & wire it into the accessory socket if that stays live.

Otherwise wire to a permanent 12v supply wire via an in-line fuse.

That will keep the battery fully charged.
