Felicia 1.6 MPI Thermostat replacement

Featured Replies

Hello,

I have an issue with the thermostat on my Felicia Fun 1.6 MPI where it is allowing coolant through the 'large circuit' and radiator all the time. This is causing the engine to run at very low temperatures and run rich. I'm assuming it's the cause for it running rich as I replaced the temp and O2 sensors recently and the radiator heats up immediately after starting without the engine getting up to even 70 degrees.

I've heard that this is down to the thermostat or thermostat housing being cracked or dead but I am not sure if I need to replace both or just the thermostat within. I also hear that reproduction parts for these can be poor quality and won't last very long. If anyone knows what I should replace and a reliable source for either new old stock or good quality reproduction parts, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you.

If the thermostat housing had problem the leak of coolant would be visible.

It's very common problem to Felicia, you can replace the thermostat even by yourself, buy the gasket too to be safe because the old maybe will be damaged.

If you buy a VIKA yes you may have a problem after a while but i don't see the problem to buy and install a Calorstat or a Valeo, all of us install after market parts.

New coolant, volatilization and you are good to go.

Odds on the thermostat element is cracked, dead or even removed by an ill-informed previous owner. In any event, when removing the housing to replace the element, look carefully for plastic in the outlet.
