Fabia mark 2 front passenger / NSF door lock replacement

Featured Replies

Hi

I need a replacement door lock mechanism for my Fabia and am having trouble sourcing a cheap aftermarket unit. I won’t pay Skoda prices, will go to scrappy if needs be. All the eBay sellers tell me they can’t source a cheapy (about 20 quid).

My question is: how unique are these units? Aren't they fairly interchangeable across the VAG? Surely other units / part numbers are useable?

My faulty door mech is part number 3B2837015AP. I have attached some photos

Vehicle details:

Dec 2007 Skoda Fabia mark 2   1.6 petrol hatchback manual right hand drive   BTS engine

There was a shape change in 2007 and my car is the newer of the shapes - 2007 to 2014ish, the 5J shape / model I believe.

I have replaced the rear passenger door lock mech in the past and found that a mark 2 unit did not fit, and that the one that did was listed (cheapy on eBay) as a mark 1 unit. That is still going strong.

Thanks for your time

Agreed UrbanPanzer, but when I ask them to confirm (as I have had problems buying the correct door mech for the rear door) I am buying the correct part they have all (6 so far) replied that theirs will not fit my car and they cannot supply one that does

Try part number 5J2837015 instead. Apparently the number you have was superseded by that in 2010: Buy 3B2837015AP door lock Skoda, Volkswagen genuine OEM part (oemwolf.com)

May increase the range of options.

Or maybe not...According to ETKA that only suits cars built from 7th December 2009 onwards. lock cylinder sets - Fabia(FAB) [EUROPA 2007 year] (7zap.com)

Thanks Wino. I think I am going to have to ignore the eBay sellers' answers that their locks will not fit and take a risk on one. They really do all look the same as the faulty part and I can't imagine VAG bothering with loads of different designs

Yeah, probably worth the gamble.

What do you suspect is wrong with the current one? What misbehaviour is occurring?

Even if I have to pay to return it it's worth a punt. And can always give the beakers a go. The front mech is now doing the same as the rear did - won't open from the outside. Opens from the inside. The cable from the handle to the unit is connected OK

Update for anyone finding themselves in the same situation. I ordered a replacement door lock part number 3B2837015A which works fine, It is not the same as the 3B2837015AP; the difference as far as I can see is there is no red parts as outlined in the attached photo. These may be some kind of manual workaround to unlock the door - you can push the top bit of the red parts (the lowest point in the photo) by poking something through a hole in the side of the door (the highest of the smaller, grommetted holes). I can do without that (hopefully). The mounting points are the same, the shape appears to be the same (fits fine) and the door locks and unlocks and opens from both sides fine.

Thanks again to WIno for his time and input
