Loud Vibrations after DMF and engine mount replacement - MK3 Octavia Scout

Featured Replies

In need of help as about to give up - car is a Octavia Scout 66 plate 184hp DSG - I had the DMF replaced in November 2020  at 101,000 miles after it failed on a motorway trip by an Automatic specialist, which was sodds law as the warranty had just run out. Ever since it was replaced I've had issues with vibration worse between 1-2k rpm on acceleration and on deceleration as it goes back through the gears. Vibration is deep in tone but loud  and comes through the seat but is mainly coming from the back of engine and through the floor like its coming from the gearbox.

No noise from the Haldex or the back of the car except the normal slight whine.

Its gone back into the Indy this week for the 4th time since the DMF was replaced but both him and I are slightly clueless as to what it could be. Any suggestions would be great?

Perhaps the issue is the with the dmf that was fitted. It might not be fitted correctly.

Hi sorry not an answer to your question but can I ask how much the DMF cost to replace, I think my one is on the way out , did you have any symptoms before it let go on the motorway thanks.

Dual Mass Flywheels are anywhere between £350 to £600 depending on labour.  I need one for my DSG VRS, so feel your pain.  The DMF for your Scout may also be a toughened version, so check with Skoda.  If warranty is not a problem, go to a VAG specialist otherwise it is your local Skoda dealer - and it comes with a 2 year warranty....

+1 I’m almost 99% sure that the noise comes from the DMF. Most likely it was fitted correctly as mechanic is Auto gearbox is specialist.

The issue IMO is the actual DMF which is defective. I’m saying this because I had changed 3 DMFs on my wife’s A3 1.9 TDI manual until I find a working one with no vertical play and almost no horizontal play of the upper plate. By horizontal play I mean the moving of the plate in left and right when you try to move it with your hands.

Do have severe rattling sound when you start the car cold and it’s idle on neutral? Like something in the gearbox is hitting its walls. Then is it changing when moving to Direct and still holding the brake?

Do you hear shuddering/rattling when you turn the engine off?

The acceleration between 1 and 2k rpm is also one of the symptoms of a bad DMF because this is the range where the torque increases( reaches max at around 1800 rpm ) and the load over the gearbox is changing.

Here is a video showing the DMF movement in both directions. In most cases the vertical movement does the rattling sound. Even if it’s new, the DMF should be checked for such vertical clearance before putting it into the car.

thank you! those are really helpful. So the rubber mounts have now been changed on the prop shaft which has stopped a bit of the vibration but it is still giving vibrations through the steering wheel when driving. Is this likely to be related with a faulty DMF still?

So oil from transfer box has been changed but that has made it worse......! Really clueless to what this could be now
