No 12v power to MAF

Featured Replies

Hiya,

I'm new to Skodas and trying to get my girlfriends 2004 VRS sorted. Its been stuck in lower power mode for ages and as shes using my car now I want to get it sorted so for a runabout for me.

I've found a P0102 fault (I think it was) with a bt scanner and Torque, replaced the MAF sensor and later discovered pin 2 does not have 12 volts supply like I think it should do. I have a good ground, 5v but no 12v on the plug.

Does anyone know of any common faults that may cause the no voltage?

OR would it be safe to run a fused 12v from the battery to pin 2 of the plug?

Thanks, Ant

Did you have the ignition switched on when testing for it?

Sorry yes this is both with ignition on and engine running

It's an ignition switched 12V via cabin fuse 7, which is also an ignition switched 12V to the power steering module, so if the PAS works, the fuse must be OK.

Check for wiring damage near or at the connector.

Ok thanks for that, the power steering is working fine so it can't be the fuse then, I took the plastic clip bit off the plug and can't see any obvious wire damage at that end but it leads down through the bulkhead so I can't check the other end

You could always splice a wire into the black/yellow wire at or near the PAS pump and take it to the MAF. Be careful about waterproofing any such addition though.

Hmm thanks, I've had a look where the PAS pump is and looks a bit of a mission even getting to it, might be a little beyond me :/

Would taking the 12v from another source, ideally ignition switched still work, if so I'd imagine a 5 amp fuse should go in-line?

Yeah, should be OK as you describe. I think it really should be ignition switched otherwise you might create a constant battery drain.

Personally, I would take a fine needle as a 'through insulation stabber-probe' and just keep following the wire back up the loom from the MAF  connector until you find a point where it does have 12V, then extend it back from there to the connector with a fresh bit of wire.

Good idea thanks. Well I've checked the area around the connector to down the wire and have connectivity so that rules the plug out which is good.

I'll have to take the airbox out to check the rest, thats a job for later

Much appreciated!

ISTR the MAF wiring is clipped to the airbox or airbox lid. If someone's been a bit heavy with it, that could have strained the wiring.
