Yeti - impressive tow car.

Featured Replies

Towed my caravan for the first time today, I was very impressed with how it did it with ease. Equally as good as the VW Tiguan it replaces. Yetis make surprisingly good tow cars...

They are indeed very good, the lack of rear axle overhang makes a big difference.

I always found my 110bhp diesel Yeti was a good tow car, until I swapped for a 150bhp petrol Audi A3. What a revelation. Yes I know it has more bhp but it is a petrol. The thing is the torque is the same at 250N/m but the delivery is far more useable across a far wider rev range. It will positively sprint from the line and mpg is near identical.

If my Yeti had been the 150bhp version you have though I think my views would be different. I've bumped into several owners who tow with the same vehicle and all have been impressed. The other great thing is the ability to remove the rear seats which makes for a marvellous long holiday tow vehicle.

Mine was good at 110hp but definitely lacked power even when not towing, it is now remapped to allegedly 184 bhp, it has a very wide torque band and good power and I'm looking forward to seeing the difference next time that I tow my big air brake site hut trailer.

JR, can you tell me who did the re-mapping of your diesel Yeti and approximately what the cost was? Has there been any significant downside to the re-mapping; ie, reduced fuel economy? Regards, Kevin

Just had my CR140 done yesterday at CC Tuning in Burton (Just outside Derby). Makes MPG better and upto 168bhp on a safe map. Rolling road too

CT cars West Horsley Surrey, £250.75 = 15% off Celtic Tuning price.

Fuel economy unchanged, perhaps better if power not used, nothing adverse to report.

Thanks for getting back to me. I'm in Queensland Australia so I suspect it is best for me to contact CT Cars and find out more about the chip itself then I'll look around for an Australian supplier. I must say that my son's Amarok seems to have lots more power which is transmitted through a conventional 6 speed automatic which seems counterintuitive as the DSG should in theory provide a more direct power delivery. They both share what is essentially the same motor; ie VW 2.0 litre turbo diesel.

As an aside, almost bogged the Yeti in Western Queensland last week with mud so sticky that the wheel arches became packed, elimination suspension and steering movement. Gearbox alarmed on overheat and with 10PSI in tyres plus lots of patience, finally managed to retreat from a very 'sticky' situation.

Kind regards
