Amundsen - Trailer Route setting

Featured Replies

Within the settings options for the Satnav are an option for "Trailer Settings".  This gives one option "Include trailer" and another for "Maximum speed for Trailers".  I'm guessing the maximum speed setting is to allow the satnav to give me a better estimate of arrival time on a journey.  The "Include trailer" option, I'm hoping will allow the satnav to set up a route for a journey and make some allowance for width restrictions.  I know that caravaners purchase stand alone satnavs that are probably better at doing this but do you think I'm hoping for to much that our Skoda units might be able to cope with this?  What is other people's experience with this?

The car won’t know how wide your trailer is, so won’t be able to take that into account.

If you set a maximum speed when you are towing you might find you get a dash warning when you exceed the set speed.

This can also be set if you have winter tyres fitted as well.

Had a customer in yesterday that had unintentionally set the winter speed warning for 20 MPH.

The warning noise worked every time they exceeded 20MPH. :D

Don’t ever let a SatNav control your journey. With or without a trailer.

Let it guide you from A to B, but always keep the Big Picture in your head. In fact an old fashioned map makes a good reference.

That little lane the SatNav is telling you to turn into may make for a shorter journey, but you should know it makes sense to stay on the big road you’re on.

SatNav estimates of journey time can be fairly realistic, but I wouldn’t waste time banking on them.

40mph seems a realistic average speed for me in these speed camera times.

I spent 12 hours out on my SatNav equipped bike yesterday and my 400+ miles averaged 44mph. And that was on deserted roads without being hindered by other traffic.

Ignoring long motorway trips, I use 30mph as a simple calculation for most trips on 4 wheels.

The days of 50 to 60 mph average speed journeys are long gone. Unless you can get away with silly speeds.
