Locking Wheel Nut

Featured Replies

A strange question that I can't get my head around.

I'm sure the alloy wheels on my VRS must have a locking wheel nut, however, when I look at them, they all look the same (see pic).

There is a wheel nut key in the boot, so where does this fit in?

You are looking at the plastic wheelnut covers and not the wheelnuts, one of them will have a larger diameter, possibly the top one looking at the photo, that will have the locking wheelnut beneath it.

You should also find a black plastic U shaped clip tool for removing the wheelnut covers.

That makes a lot of sense; thank you.

There should also be be a hook type tool to remove the nut covers otherwise they aren’t easy to remove.

That is for something else, I have used it on wheels that had a large silver centre plastic insert hiding the wheelnuts, also for removing the towing eye covers, others have said it is to access the rear light bulbs, it can at a pinch & with lots of struggling remove the wheelnut caps but the correct tool as shown does it positively without any fuss.

Hi Noms, the steel wire hook in the spare wheel tray is used for (besides other things) removing the plastic cover on the rear tail light cluster to get to the two torx screws,

there is a small hole in the cover which the tool hooks into, insert the tool and pull towards the boot lock, It will  unclip from the cluster revealing the two torx screws.

BTW I thought it was for removing the plastic wheel nut covers untill I saw the plastic tongs in the spare wheel tray, DOH!

Cheers Terry

The confusion comes because the metal hook-ring-pull-thing is used to pull off some types of wheel nut cover (mainly on VWs) that look like they have a torx drive in the centre. Skoda and Audi normally use the tongs.

The one that goes over the locking wheel bolt is very hard to see when it is on.

Thank you.
Does it look like I have everything?

Hi Noms, looks like everything is there, including a Torx screwdriver,

Hi N, yes yes, you've got everything, but have you located the locking wheel nut on the wheels?

The cover for the locking wheel nut is easy to spot, its round, they were on mine.
