Morning all,

 

Following the handy guide for locating VCDS coders within the community, I've been exchanging PM's with a fellow member to ascertain whether or not they are able to help or not, I'm looking to enable TSR, as this seems to be the only option not ticked in terms of extras for my L&K Superb.

 

A query was raised as to whether my vehicle  has the newer multi function module fitted, as if so it will require use of the hex net interface to do all of the coding. The member I reached out to has advised they have the older hex cable so wouldn't be able to  do it.

 

Now my car is a '67 plate, the member has advised that the only way to know if the car has the older or newer module is to scan the car and see if the module shows up.

 

He seems to think the car is probably a 2018 model year, Octavia's of that age normally have it fitted but he's not sure about the Superb.

Has anyone with a car of a similar year had any experience with this?

 

Just wanting to ask, as I'm approx. 28 miles from the guy can that could potentially help.

TSR shouldn’t need coding in 4B which is the multi function module and if you have ambient lighting on your screens and an all glass radio screen you have an MY18 car which has 4B. TSR coding is in 17, 5F and A5 only. HBA is in 4B.

I can confirm I have ambient lighting on my screens, and an all glass radio screen, so assuming I have an MY18 car. If this is the case, will this not work with the older hex cable?

You will indeed have an MY18 car. I can only confirm that TSR coding wouldn’t need access to multifunction module 4B, as I don’t have an older Hex CAN cable, I couldn’t advise on the suitability of the cable for newer cars. Not sure where you are but I’m in North Wales and I can add it for sure as well as some other goodies such as comfort entry, 30 colour lighting etc.

The goodies that you can unlocks sound interesting! What's comfort entry? I'm assuming the 30 colour lighting allows you to utilize a wider array of colours than the standard predefined ones?

ahh no way! that's pretty cool, I like the idea comfort entry too. Shame you're so far from me.

Thanks @SashaGrace, I've PM'd 3 members based local to me, but 2 of the 3 I guess are classed as inactive members, as I've not heard back. @trundlenuthas kindly advised he still does VCDS, however he does an older Hex CAN cable.

 

Love that part of north wales, was over in Anglesey last September/October, just before the 2nd lockdown loomed.

From memory I can only change the brightness of the footwell lights, not the colour

I'm pretty sure they're just standard lights. Mine has the LED pack, so has white LED's as opposed to halogen bulbs, I can change the brightness but that's it.

I am able to fit colour changing floor lighting. That is a clients car, mine is being pulled apart to fit tomorrow. Pics and info to come.

Sorry to hijack but I’m also in the situation where my vcds cable won’t touch the 4b multi function module.

 

what’s the purpose of this module?

what retrofits require access to it?

I'm in Olney with vcds and hex-v2 if that's of any use. 

 

@SashaGrace do you know what coding is needed for the footwell lights to match ambient strips? My colour changing footwell lights arrived from aliexpress, but I don't know where they get coded

I haven’t added them as slaves in the interior lighting parameter as I have a 086 BCM so that won’t work so my solution has been to use the BCM connection C Pin 72 as per factory and solder the LIN direct to Pin 29 connection C. This works well with no coding to half brightness and below that they flicker so I either need to take the power to Terminal 30 12V or add an appropriate resistor. For me that’s a job for another time, I just keep the brightness above half for now.

I've managed to find a local member to me that has been able to code TSA and a couple of other tweaks. Are you able to share the VCDS coding for this, or is it done via VAG COM?

VCDS is what VAG-COM used to be called. In LIN 2 some of the greens may need the blue toning down so make sure they are set by eye.

Ahh right, every day is a school day! So by amending/adding these entries, you'll be shown the 30 colour pallet instead of the default?

 

I'm assuming these above are specific RGB values for each colour option?

Yup and yup 

 

Assuming you have 10 colours at the moment, the 11-30 adaption channels will be set to 0. As soon any are non-zero, it should use all 30 rather than 10.

 

TBH, it's a bit of a pain to do this via VCDS as you need to change each adaption channel separately

- If you just want the colours on the headunit, that's ~90 changes

- If you have ambient lighting and want them to match, that's ~180 changes

 

If you have the 'automatic' option, that's another ~5-8 changes to correct the preset for each driving mode too.

 

When I did this, I made my own colourset by interpolating the extra colours between the stock values:

 

I think I used VCDS scripter to help my sanity but it still needed a little bit of hand holding...

Wow!  Typical, I tick all of those boxes, so potentially 188 changes. I don't have the cable/software personally, but I've paid a local member for my VIN against his software. 

Are you able to give any more advice on how to use the scripter, and a copy of the script if possible? 

 

Great idea creating your own colourset by interpolating the extra colours between the stock values, makes it feel OEM+.

 

I'd love to be able to make this modification, but appreciate it seems like quite a bit of effort, based on the advice above.

I'm afraid I didn't keep the script, it was just something I threw together quickly as it's the only time I've tried VCDS scripter. Generally speaking I'd much prefer doing things step by step...

The scripting language is super simple. If I remember correctly, the issues I had were:

- you need to set a non-zero equipment number in VCDS first (otherwise the module complains about 00000 not being valid)

- it would do 'some number' of changes then freeze or get confused depending how quickly the module responded

 

In the end I think I had to run the script 6-7 times, removing whichever commands were success to get all the channels changed...

I’ve done it so many times it takes me about 10-15 mins max. I use OBDEleven for this as it’s quicker. My colour palette is slightly different but it still works

Thanks again @SashaGrace, a local member has been able to create a script to implement these changes, similarly to what @langers2k was able to do.

 

@Ivan8192 kindly provided me with the 10 original values, I pulled the values into Illustrator and built a gradient from them, I then took a sample at incremental points to create the 30 colours. I understand there are different colour values for the ambient light and the screen, hence the two gradients.

 

I'm waiting to hear on how Ivan gets on testing on his car to see how they look but hopefully they offer a wide spectrum of colours, that are balanced. Will post back once I hear back.
