No power to ignition

Featured Replies

Hi , I performed a parasitic draw test on my Skoda elegance.
I went to try and start the car afterwards  and now my ignition is dead. I have no dash lighting  and no crank . I do have power to the radio, interior lights and side lights but nothing on anything that requires the ignition to be on . The battery is fully charged
Could anyone advise me on what to do or what could be the problem .
thanks in advance

Describe how you carried out the test, what did you connect or disconnect?

Hi JR , thanks for your reply, I removed the negative cable from the battery post . I set the multimeter to 10 amps and connected it between them .
it showed I had a draw of 1.7 amps . I then removed the fuses one at a time but came up with no change .

I then tried to start the car but it was completely dead . Battery still had a reading of 12.7

If you let me know what car model you have then I'll move it to the relevant forum.

Thankyou John , apologies, I’m new here .
it’s a Skoda Octavia Elegance TDI CR

You have either replaced one of the fuses in the wrong location, put a smaller capacity fuse in place of the ignition fuse or possibly blown the correct fuse through the initial surge current.

Look at the fuse diagram in your manual or if you are lucky the printed card in the fuse box, be aware that it may be a mirror image, and check the relevant fuses.

Ok I will check this and test each of the fuses . One thing I did find that there was a five amp fuse in the location of the heated front seat position . It should have been a 30 amp fuse for this location apparently . As I don’t have a heated front seat I just removed it as I thought it shouldn’t be there . When the car wouldn’t start I put it back but still nothing

Did you check the fuses in the engine bay fusebox?

Yes , I checked them too and also tested the relay switch 100 there which was working .

Immobiliser activated?

Did wonder about that , do you know how to deactivate it.

Use the unlock button on the ignition key.

Is there any special sequence you have to go through

Not that I'm aware of.

I know you've checked, but I'd be surprised if you haven't put a fuse back in the wrong position.

It's always a good idea to take a photo of the fuse panel before they're disturbed.

In general, all fuse positions where you can see 2 silver sockets for the fuse to fit in, should have a fuse in it.  ( probably have to remove the fuse to see this )

If one end is silver & the other black, there shouldn't be a fuse in that position.

Fuses can also fracture just by removing them.

So check them all with a meter for continuity.

Thankyou Pip , I never knew about the silver  black thing on the fuse locations  . I will go and check and retest the fuses while I’m there

I’ve tested all fuses ,all ok. Every fuse in correct location with correct rating

I’ve done a bit of research online and thinking it could be one of the relays under the dashboard.
Anybody have any thoughts about this?

Hi,

Any updates on this subject? I have the same issue, been at it for 2weeks.

I'm leaning now to ignition barrel or immobiliser.Does any have resources to schematics.

Thanks

Jason
